Villorba Corse Celebrates First GT Open Podium Of The Season

A precious podium comes from the Nurburgring at the end of race-2 for Villorba Corse. In the opening round of the 2014 International GT Open Andrea Montermini and Niccolò Schirò confirmed their Ferrari 458 among the major contenders of the series thanks to a very good comeback which in the 60-minute race allowed the Villorba crew to cross the finish line in third position and the Italian team led by Raimondo Amadio to celebrate the first podium of the season.

After fourth place in Saturday's race-1, when he went in trouble with tyres during the final laps, on Sunday Schirò started race-2 from the third row. Assuring lots of action and thrilling fights in the first half of the race the 20-years-old talent from Milan then left the wheel of the supercar from Maranello to his team mate Montermini. The reigning champion from Modena was back on track in seventh position but he was able to recover and to grab the podium after some great overtaking.

“We made a very positive comeback in the second half of race-2 - says Amadio, Team Principal - and our GT was certainly more competitive than yesterday. Race-2 podium closes a difficult weekend in a very good way. We clinched valuable points, the season is still long and this result represents a good basis to work hard and to be confident about the upcoming events.”
