Great Weather and a New Series Mean Big Crowds
Picture perfect weather greeted drivers and fans at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix Powered by Mazda.

Maybe it was the weather or maybe the intrigue of the new TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, but whatever the reason, the crowds were out in full force for this weekend’s action.

“We’re very, very happy,” said Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca CEO and General Manager Gill Campbell. Campbell says as many tickets sold for this weekend’s race as were sold for last year’s American Le Mans Series and GRAND-AM weekends combined.

The WeatherTech Porsche Will Race at Le Mans
WeatherTech Racing will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with drivers Cooper MacNeil, Jeroen Bleekenmolen, and Bret Curtis. The team will compete in the No. 79 Porsche RSR LMGTAM with Prospeed Competition.

The team is joining forces with the Belgium based Prospeed operation, which has a wealth of Porsche and Le Mans experience. McNeil, Curtis and Bleekenmolen have a combined 10 starts at Le Mans.

"My first time racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans was last year and I happened to be the youngest and tallest in the field," MacNeil said. "The event is unlike any other race. If we keep the car out of the garage, we should have an excellent shot at a podium finish. I'm really excited to be going back to Le Mans."

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is run at the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France June 14-15.

Extreme Speed Motorsports Makes History at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Extreme Speed Motorsports’ win at the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship’s Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix Powered by Mazda contained a number for firsts for the team.

Drivers Johannes von Overbeek and Ed Brown captured the team’s first overall win. It was also the first win for the Honda powered HPD ARX-03b in TUDOR United SportsCar Championship action and ESM’s first race win from the pole.

The victory was the first professional race win for Brown, and the first time Brown and von Overbeek won together as co-drivers.

Extreme Speed Motorsports now has four wins. In addition to Sunday’s win at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, they have two GT class wins and one P2 class win in the American Le Mans Series.
