From Pins to the Pits: For Aaron Schields, front-tire carrier on the No. 42 Target Chevy, heading to Kansas Speedway this weekend means more than returning to his home state and Rock Chalk roots at nearby Kansas University, it also means returning to the state where he was a two-time Kansas high school state wrestling champ. Schields, who grew up in western Kansas, won the state title in both 1999 and 2000 at Goodland High School. In addition to his work on the 42 pit crew, Schields also plays an important role at Chip Ganassi Racing in helping to recruit and develop new pit crew members, many of whom transition from successful professional and collegiate athletic careers.

@KyleLarsonRacin: “We survived Talladega! Happy about that top 10 today. Was worried going into the race.”

@jamiemcmurray: “What a long day that was. [Referring to Sunday’s Aaron’s 499] Thanks to my guys for getting the car repaired. We needed one more caution.”

Jamie McMurray and No. 1 McDonald’s Team

Talladega Wrap Up: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) headed to Talladega Superspeedway for just the second restrictor-plate race of the 2014 season. What is typically a wild and unexpected event lived up to its reputation for the McDonald’s team. Just 14 laps into the Aaron’s 499 Jamie McMurray was involved in an accident and would spend the rest of the 188-lap race trying to overcome a seven lap deficit. When the checkered flag waved, McMurray crossed the line with a 29th place finish.

McMurray at Kansas: McMurray has made 14 previous starts at Kansas Speedway. He has completed 3541 of 3686 (96.1%) laps of competition and has led 26 of those laps. His best start of fourth came in 2009 and he has best finish of seventh place on two occasions, Oct. 2004 and April 2013. McMurray has three top-10 finishes with an average start of 20.6 and average finish of 18.6

KC Rocks!: The decklid on the No. 1 McDonald’s Chevy SS will sport the logo for KQRC, Kansas City’s Rock Station, The Rock! 98.9 this weekend. KQRC has partnered with McDonald’s in the Greater Kansas City area to promote exclusive race team giveaways and experiences leading into the 5-Hour Energy 400 at Kansas Speedway, and the Bacon Clubhouse Burger available at McDonald’s.
There are three McDonald’s restaurants within five miles of Kansas Speedway, including the closest location at 10555 Parallel Parkway
Kansas City, Kan. 66111 (913)299-9600.

Kyle Larson and No. 42 Target Team

Talladega Recap: Starting with the first practice session on Friday afternoon, Kyle Larson and Team Target thought they had a good car for Sunday’s race. The No. 42 Target Chevy was fast in the first practice session on Friday afternoon, posting the fifth fastest speed in that session, however the team did not advance past the first round of qualifying on Saturday, and started in 29th position for the Aaron’s 499. Larson methodically moved through the 43-car field during the course of the 188-lap race, avoiding any incidents on his way to a ninth place finish.

Larson at Kansas: Larson will look to finish a race at Kansas Speedway for the first time in this weekend’s 5-hour Energy 400. In one previous NASCAR Nationwide Series start, where he drove the No. 32 Cessna Chevy, Larson retired from the race with handling issues with 55 laps to go. And, although Saturday will be Larson’s first NSCS start at Kansas, he was there several weeks ago for a tire test in the Cup car.
