2014 Spain GP: Formula One F1 Qualifying Results - Hamilton, Mercedes On Pole!

By Mike Sulka

In clear conditions, Lewis Hamilton and his No. 44 Mercedes has easily taken the Formula One F1 pole for the 2014 Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain with a lap of 1:25.232. For Hamilton, it is his fourth pole of the 2014 season, and 35th of his Formula One F1 career. It is also Hamilton's first career pole at the Spanish Grand Prix.

For Mercedes it is the team's fifth - and fifth consecutive - Pole of the 2014 Formula One F1 season. Tomorrow, Mercedes will try to become the first constructor since Ferrari - in 2004 - to win the first five Grand Prix of the season.

Also qualifying on the front row was Nico Rosberg and his No. 6 Mercedes with a lap of 1:25.400. The result gives Mercedes their second front-row lock-out of the year.

Running for best of the rest was Daniel Ricciardo and his No. 3 Red Bull with a lap of 1:26.285 which was a full second off the Pole time set by Hamilton.

Valtteri Bottas and his No. 77 Williams will start fourth with Romain Grosjean and his No. 8 Lotus fifth in qualifying.

Sebastian Vettel and his No. 1 Red Bull continued to struggle after his car came to a halt on track in Q3.

Q2 KO's: Kevin Magnussen (McLaren), Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso), Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber), Daniel Kvyat (Toro Rosso), Sergio Perez (Force India), and Nico Hulkenberg (Force India).

Q1 KO's: Pastor Maldonado (Lotus), Jules Bianchi (Marussia), Max Chilton (Marussia), Marcus Ericsson (Caterham), Kamui Kobayashi (Caterham), and Adrian Sutil (Sauber).

In Q1, Pastor Maldonado and his No. 13 Lotus spun and made contact with the wall ending his qualifying.
