In front of 60,000, Simon Pagenaud and his No. 77 Sam Schmidt Motorsports Honda has won a thrilling inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana. For Pagenaud, it is his first win of the 2014 IndyCar season, and third of his IndyCar career.

Grabbing second was Ryan Hunter-Reay and his No. 28 Honda. For Hunter-Reay, it was his third podium of the 2014 IndyCar season, and 23rd of his IndyCar career. It was also his 26th major open-wheel podium.

Finishing third, Helio Castroneves and his No. 3 Chevrolet. For the Brazilian, it was his second podium of the year, and 67th of his IndyCar career. It was also his 77th career podium.

Sebastien Bourdais and his No. 11 Chevrolet would finish fourth with Charlie Kimball and his No. 83 rounding out the top five.

The action began right from the start when Pole sitter Sebastian Saavedra failed to get away from his grid position became a chicane for the rest of the field. Ryan Hunter-Reay was able to dart to the left to get past, but Carlos Munoz and his No. 34 was unable to avoid the stalled IndyCar and made hard contact on the left-rear. Still coming was Mikhail Aleshin and his No. 7 who hit the pole sitter second. All three cars would be out of the race.

Throughout the event there was lots of close racing - which is atypical of a road course - and great passing moves. The Grand Prix of Indianapolis was a hit on track, and off.

Next up for the IndyCar series will be qualifying for the 2014 Indianapolis 500.
