2014 NHRA: Lucas Oil Rider Arana Sr. Excited To Be Returning To Atlanta Dragway

With a new addition to this year's schedule, Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Hector Arana Sr. is ready to return to a track that has treated him well, Atlanta Dragway, site of this weekend's Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals.

The last time Arana competed at Atlanta Dragway, at the 2012 NHRA Southern Nationals, he took his Lucas Oil Buell all the way to the semifinals, where he came up just under two-hundredths of a second short against Michael Ray and advancing to the final round. Obviously, Arana is looking to redeem that memory and bring home the victory this time.

"Atlanta is a good track and it's closer to home for us," Arana said. "I'm looking forward to going back there after having a year away. There are a lot of fans who wanted to see the bikes come back to Atlanta Dragway. I'm just happy that the fans got what they asked for, and I'm happy to finally be going back there again this year."

The 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season hasn't started off exactly like Arana would have liked, but he isn't worried yet because he is happy to still be doing what he loves.

"I'm ready to go," Arana said. "It doesn't matter what track we are running at this weekend; we just want to be able to keep running. The season has started off slowly, but once we get the issues we're having figured out, we will be good to go. I'm not worried; it's too early in the season to worry. Right now it's time to focus on Atlanta."

Qualifying rounds for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals are set for 4:15 and 6:30 p.m. ET Friday and 12:30 and 3:15 p.m. Saturday. Final eliminations will start at 11 a.m. Sunday. ESPN2 will carry a qualifying package from 6 to 8 p.m. ET Saturday and eliminations from 9 p.m. to noon Sunday.
