2014 Charlotte: Max Gresham NASCAR Truck Race Preview

2014 DRIVING DEBUT: Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway will mark Max Gresham’s first start of the 2014 season. Gresham signed with GMS Racing in March and will compete in five Truck Series events in the No. 23 AmWINS Chevrolet Silverado – Charlotte, Kentucky, Bristol, Martinsville, and Texas.

WELCOME, AmWINS: AmWINS will adorn the sides of Gresham’s No. 23 Chevrolet Silverado for Friday’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200. AmWINS has been a leader in the wholesale insurance industry since its formation in 1998. The firm is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C. and has 90 locations across 17 countries, including 60 in the United States. AmWINS has expertise across a diversified mix of property, casualty and group benefits products.

CHARLOTTE STATS: Gresham returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the third time in his Truck Series career. One year ago, Gresham notched his career-best finish at the 1.5-mile speedway, as the Griffin, Georgia native finished in third-place. In addition, the 21-year-old has completed 98.9% of laps contended.

CHASSIS INFORMATION: GMS Racing will bring Chassis No. 020 to Charlotte Motor Speedway. This is the same chassis Brendan Gaughan drove to a second-place finish at the Concord, N.C. track in 2013. Gresham and the Ryan “Pickle” London-led team tested their AmWINS Chevrolet Silverado twice – at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway and Charlotte – in preparation for Friday night’s race.

STOUTWORX ON BOARD: In addition to AmWINS, Stoutworx will be an associate sponsor on Gresham’s No. 23 Chevrolet. Located in Mooresville, N.C., Stoutworx is your number one shop for all your aftermarket car and truck needs. The staff at Stoutworx brings your car dreams to reality, carrying a full-line of wheels and tires and helping with your trailer hitch and towing needs. Also, Stoutworx is an authorized Rhino Linings dealer, offering the only lifetime nationwide warranty in the area.

MAX GRESHAM QUOTES:
What do you like about racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway?
“I’ve raced at Charlotte for the last 10 years, dating all the way back to the start of my career. I started racing Bandolero and Legend cars there on the small track and even though I’ve never won a race there, I’ve run well there a lot. It’s definitely a fun track that fits my driving style perfectly. You can charge the corners and that’s a good thing for how I drive a truck.”

How did the test go a couple weeks ago?
“The test went really well. I felt like we were one of the fastest trucks there and learned a lot which is a good thing, since we were trying a few things. We should have a solid starting package for when we unload on Thursday.”

How does it feel to get back behind the wheel for the first time this season?
“It’s definitely a relief to finally get back behind the wheel; it’s been far too long since I’ve been in a truck and actually raced. It’s going to be nice to be back in the driver’s seat and have a familiar face in Pickle (Ryan London) as my crew chief. We already connect and have a relationship which should help us at the track.”
