Justin Allison, Grandson Of NASCAR Legend Donnie Allison, Making ARCA Short Track Debut In Toledo's Menards 200

Allison family has solid ARCA connections over decades

(TOLEDO, Ohio - May 14, 2014) - Justin Allison, grandson of NASCAR legend Donnie Allison and great nephew of Daytona 500 champion Bobby Allison (members of the original Alabama Gang), will be making his ARCA short track debut this weekend at Toledo Speedway in the Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care May 17-18.

Allison, in the No. 88 HavacoSales.com Ford, has just three ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards starts under his belt - all on superspeedways (Daytona, Talladega & Kansas). This Sunday's short track adventure at Toledo will return the third-generation racer to his roots.

"All of my racing experience comes from short track racing," Allison said. "I'm looking forward to going to Toledo. We have a winning short track program at Team BCR, and the No. 88 HaVACo Ford should be strong."

Allison tested the No. 88 powered by RoushYates Engines at South Boston Speedway earlier this week in preparation for the Menards 200.

"Testing at South Boston Speedway gave me the extra confidence I needed. Short tracks are definitely more in my comfort zone. Howard Bixman (car owner) and the crew gave me a great car, and I learned a great deal throughout the day. I know there's room for improvement and a tremendous amount I need to learn moving forward. I'm really excited to see what the weekend holds for our 88 team."

Allison considers short track racing as "real racing."

"This is where the 'real racing' will happen," Allison added. "Racing at these speedways, like Daytona and Talladega, has a tremendous amount of variables. At the short tracks, you not only have to bring a fast car, but have the talent as a driver. I think we'll be a threat to our competition in Toledo since short track racing is what I grew up on and have the most experience with."

Allison family has solid ARCA connections over decades

The Allison family has an enduring history with the ARCA Racing Series reaching back to 1975 when Bobby Allison won the ARCA race at Salem Speedway.

Bobby also brought both his sons, Davey and Clifford, through the ARCA Racing Series as part of their driver development en route to NASCAR.

Davey, the 1984 ARCA Rookie of the Year, made 40 career ARCA Racing Series starts from 1980 through 1986, finishing second in championship standings in 1984 and third in 1985. He also won eight races over his ARCA career, including four wins at Talladega Superspeedway, two at Atlanta Motor Speedway, one at Middle Georgia Speedway and one at Lucas Oil Raceway. His ARCA career also included 21 top-five finishes, 25 top-10s and five pole awards - three at Talladega, one at Atlanta and one at Lorain County Speedway.

Davey's younger brother Clifford made 12 ARCA Racing Series starts from 1988 through 1992 finishing a career-best second two times at Michigan Int'l Speedway and Pocono Raceway in 1992.

Justin's grandfather Donnie Allison

Donnie Allison won 10 NASCAR Sprint Cup races over his career, including the World 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1970 and the Firecracker 400 at Daytona Int'l Speedway. Donnie also finished fourth in the Indianapolis 500 in 1970.

Justin Allison teammate to ARCA point leader Grant Enfinger at Toledo

Allison will be teammate at Toledo to Grant Enfinger. Enfinger, in the No. 90 Motor Honey/Casite - Triple K Construction Ford, won the first three races of the season at Daytona, Mobile and Salem. The Fairhope, Alabama driver answered that with his second career pole award at Talladega, and leads the points headed to Toledo.

Enfinger raced Ken Schrader door to door in last season's Menards 200 at Toledo, until cutting a tire down in the final laps. Ironically, it was Schrader who cut down a tire at Salem a few weeks ago in the closing laps, opening the door for Enfinger, who went straight to victory lane.

"Toledo's a really good track to race at," Enfinger said. "We were very competitive last year and we're bringing that same car back with us. We've made improvements, and I think we're going to be even better than we were."

Weekend Schedule/Coverage

Tickets are on sale now for the Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care at Toledo Speedway. Tickets are $15, compared to $25 on race day, and are now available at Menards stores in Toledo, Defiance, Holland, Oregon, Sandusky and Findlay.

The weekend's activities include two ARCA Racing Series practice sessions Saturday, May 17 from 11:45-12:30 and 1-1:45, with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell at 3:30. An ARCA-sanctioned Sportsman feature race will follow qualifying Saturday afternoon. The Menards 200 is Sunday at 2, with an autograph session from noon to 1. Pre-race and driver introductions follow the autograph session.

The Menards 200 is live on FOX Sports 1.
