Aldo Racing Team Makes It To The Grid On The Last Day Of The Mexican 1000 Rally (01)

It was all drama on Tuesday evening for Canadian ALDO Racing Team after their Toyota Tacoma Overdrive crossed the finish line in 12th place in La Paz, and mechanics began their search to identify the reason the truck's battery was losing all its energy while running. Twice that day, the Toyota died, and twice it required a boost to get going again. The team finally found the culprit in the wee hours of the morning and the ALDO Racing Team was seventh on the grid on Wednesday morning to start the last leg of the four-day 2014 NORRA Mexican 1000 which concludes in San Jose del Cabo, located at the southern tip of the Mexican Baja California peninsula.

Even though they stood fourth in the overall provisional team standings following a strong run on Monday, Team ALDO was pushed back to tenth place on the grid to make room for six so-called "Legend teams" to leave ahead of them. Even the teams of Bob Gordon and Jim Smith, respectively second and third at the time, had to let four of these much slower teams depart ahead of them. The organizers added two more teams in front of Team ALDO.

"It could not have happened at a worst time," said Patrick Beaulé regarding the insertions. "Coming out of La Paz, we were right into our first special stage of the day. The road was dusty, and with no wind, it stayed up and we were facing a wall of dust. We could not see very far ahead, let alone take a chance to move by them. The convoy was a dust train, and we ran at 70 to 80% of our capacity."

"During the second special stage, we left from seventh place, but again the road was very dusty and this time narrower," continued Beaulé. "To make matter worse, the road was covered with big rocks and we had to try and avoid them in order not to bounce too much in the cab. At the end of the final run, David, (driver David Bensadoun), who has quite a strong body built, was suffering muscular aches in his shoulders and forearms."

Sleepless Night for the ALDO Technical Team For the overnight stop at La Paz, ALDO Racing Team had decided to dispense their bivouac camping facilities and have a good night's sleep in comfortable hotel beds. But that plan was short-lived as they spent most of the night looking for the cause of the electrical short. The finally found the faulty electronic relay and replaced it.

The NORRA Mexican 1000 Rally The 2014 NORRA Mexican 1000 Rally is a 2,110-kilometre rally-raid event of the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA). The ALDO Racing Toyota Tacoma Overdrive is entered in the Rally All Wheel Drive class (RAWD) for the four-day event with nightly bivouac stops. The Baja California rallies are well known for attracting off-normed unlimited and open class desert warriors.
