Toyota, Save Mart and Lucky have recently launched the Hometown Heroes contest, a new Facebook-based promotion that will allow race fans and community members to nominate a local hero for recognition and incredible VIP experiences during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend in Sonoma.

Heroes can take many forms, so nominations for members of the Armed Forces, first responders, teachers and other public servants are encouraged. To nominate your hero, simply "like" Toyota Fan Zone, Save Mart and/or Lucky Supermarkets on Facebook and then click through to the Hometown Heroes contest. Submissions will be accepted through May 31.

"Hometown Heroes is a fantastic way to recognize local heroes who are supporting their communities in various ways, from teachers to military members," said Dan Swartz, general manager, Toyota Motor Sales, San Francisco Region. "Toyota is proud to work with partners like the Sonoma Raceway, Save Mart and Lucky to support this program and honor those who are making a positive impact."

When the entry phase closes on May 31, voting will open for selection of 12 winners. The 12 nominees with the most votes at the end of the voting period on June 11 will be eligible for VIP experiences at the Toyota/Save Mart 350. Winners will be announced on June 16.

Three grand prize winners will enjoy one-of-a-kind experiences at the Toyota/Save Mart 350. Two grand prize winners will get all 43 NASCAR drivers fired up by giving the "Drivers, start your engines!" command prior to the start of the race, while another will actually start the Toyota/Save Mart 350 by waving the green flag. The selected Hometown Heroes will also be recognized during pre-race ceremonies.

"Ordinary people do extraordinary things every day and Hometown Heroes gives us a unique opportunity to recognize their contributions," said Steve Junqueiro, president and COO of Save Mart Supermarkets. "Save Mart is proud to join Toyota and Sonoma Raceway in providing a remarkable experience to those making a difference in their hometown."

The remaining top nominees will receive four weekend passes for the Toyota/Save Mart 350, as well as a chance to drive a NASCAR driver around the road course during the parade lap of pre-race festivities.
