2014 Indianapolis 500: KV Racing IndyCar Race Preview


KVSH Racing driver Sebastien Bourdais broke a streak of three consecutive double digit finishes to open the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season with a strong fourth place showing in the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis. Bourdais earned 33 points and now sits 10th in the standings with 81, just 21 out of fifth place.

• Bourdais is the only driver to win four consecutive championships, taking the Champ Car World Series title in 2004 through to 2007.
• Bourdais is entering his ninth Verizon IndyCar Series season (previously ran five in Champ Car and three with IndyCar).
• The 2014 Indianapolis 500 will be Bourdais' 118th Verizon IndyCar Series start, fifth with KVSH and third at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
• In 117 career Verizon IndyCar Series starts, Bourdais has won 31 races placing him eighth on the all-time list and seventh with 31 pole positions.
• Bourdais has a best oval qualifying of fourth at Fontana last year and also a best oval finish of 12th (Fontana in 2012 and the Indianapolis 500 in 2005).
• Bourdais, 35, is a native of Le Mans, France but currently resides in St. Petersburg, Florida.

KV AFS Racing driver Sebastian Saavedra made history at the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis last week, by winning the first pole and also his first in his IndyCar career. Unfortunately his race then ended before it started after the car stalled and he was plowed into the back of by two other cars. Lucky to walk away, Saavedra was able to pick up eight points and sits 17th in the championship standings with 63 points, just 18 away from 10th.

• Saavedra is entering his fifth Verizon IndyCar Series season.
• The 2014 Indianapolis 500 will be Saavedra's 43rd Verizon IndyCar Series start, 17th on an oval, fifth with KV AFS and third at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
• In 42 career Verizon IndyCar Series starts, Saavedra has earned three top-10 finishes with a best finish of eight last year and one pole.
• In 16 previous oval races, Saavedra has an oval career best finish of 13th at Milwaukee last year and a best oval qualifying of sixth, also at Milwaukee.
• Saavedra has a road/street course best finish of eighth at Baltimore last year and his career best start is pole at the Grand Prix of Indianapolis last week.
• Saavedra, 23, is a native of Bogota, Columbia. He currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana.

KV Racing Technology driver Townsend Bell has been competing full-time in the TUDOR United Sportscar Championship for AIM Autosport with Ferrari. They won the 24 Hours of Sebring and currently lead the GTD championship after three of 11 rounds. Bell is competing in his first event of the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series this month at Indianapolis.

• Bell is entering his 12th Verizon IndyCar Series season
• The 2014 Indianapolis 500 will be Bell's 37th Verizon IndyCar Series start, second with KV Racing Technology and eighth at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
• In seven previous starts at the Indianapolis 500, Bell has a best starting of fourth in 2011 and a best finish of fourth in 2009.
• Bell, 39, currently resides in Pacific Palisades, California.

KV Racing Technology driver James Davison is eager to qualify and race in his first Indianapolis 500. The 27-year-old Australian native has two career Verizon IndyCar Series starts, both in 2013 on permanent road courses. He has raced at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, on both the original road course configuration and the 2.5-mile oval, but those were in open-wheel support series. Now he has an opportunity to realize a lifelong dream of competing in the Indianapolis 500.

• The 2014 Indianapolis 500 will be Davison's third career Verizon IndyCar Series start, but his first on an oval track.
• Davison made his Verizon IndyCar Series debut on August 4, 2013, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (finishing 15th) and raced again three weeks later at the Raceway at Sonoma (finishing 18th).
• Davison first raced at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as an 18-year-old, winning the Formula BMW USA race on the original road course configuration during the Formula One U.S. Grand Prix weekend.
• Davison raced two seasons in Firestone Indy Lights, finishing second in the 2009 championship with wins at Mid-Ohio in both 2008 and 2009.
• He has driven the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in two Firestone Indy Lights races, finishing sixth in 2009.
