2014 Charlotte (All-Star): NASCAR Sprint Cup All-Star Starting Line-up & Race Preview

By Mike Sulka

Tonight is the NASCAR Sprint Cup series annual no-points all-glory All-star event at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The race is split into four 20-lap segments and a final 10-lap winner take all segment. The running order at the completion of the fourth (4th) segment (lap 80) will be repositioned based on the average finish for the first four (4) segments directly behind the caution car prior to the opening of pit road for the mandatory four-tire pit stop. The order of cars returning to the track will determine the starting order of the fifth (5th)/final segment. Running order ties will be broken by the finish of the fourth segment.

Only green flag laps will be counted during the final segment.

To qualify for tonight's event, a driver had to be a race-winning driver from the 2013 and 2014 NSCS seasons, an active NSCS champions from 2004-2013 or a past Sprint All-Star Race winners from 2004-2013. The top two finishers of the last night's Sprint Showdown (Clint Bowyer & AJ Allmendinger) plus one driver selected via the Sprint Fan Vote complete the field. (Josh Wise)

Our pick tonight is Jimmie Johnson to repeat his 2012 & 2013 success and take home the big prize. He is the only driver to win this event four times.

Should Johnson fail - likely due to contact - then the event is packed with previous winners to choose from.

So enjoy the battle under the lights. There are no points on the line, and a one million dollar prize for the victor! Do you think the boys will have at it ?

Sure they will!
