Ferrari Challenge Europe - Coppa Shell Race 1

Scarperia, 17 May - Erich Prinoth fights back and takes his first win of the season, having started from pole. The veteran of the series, who had not made the most of his two pole positions in Monza, dominated today, winning by over 7 seconds from Canada’s Rick Lovat (Kessel Racing) and 9 ahead of Sweden’s Tommy Lindroth (Baron Service). It was a first podium appearance of the year for all of the top three.

Prinoth (Ineco-MP Racing) led from start to finish and behind him there was plenty of excitement with the Safety Car required on the first lap because of an accident involving four cars. Championship leader Massimiliano Bianchi, collided with Canada’s Eric Cheung while San Marino’s Marco Galassi and Englishman Rupert Martin all retired.

Making the most of the chaos at the start, the Dutchman Fons Scheltema (Kessel Racing) who started from last, managed to move all the way up to fifth and thus heads the general classification.

As for the Coppa Gentlemen, the top two places went to Prinoth and Lovat. Third was Italy’s Thomas Gostner (Ineco-MP Racing.) Race 2 is at 14.05 tomorrow.
