Simeon 11th After Difficult Qualifying At Le Mans Heel Injury For Baldassarri

This afternoon’s French Grand Prix qualifying at Le Mans didn’t go as expected for Xavier Siméon and the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2: the Belgian rider was unable to improve his classification and confirmed himself in eleventh position - the same obtained yesterday in the first two free practice sessions - with a best lap time of 1’38”112. However, the gap to the poleman, Jonas Folger, it’s still less than half a second.

Tomorrow morning, during the Warm Up, Siméon and the team will continue to work on the bike set-up to find a solution for the front end issues which today slowed him in some parts of the track. The goal for tomorrow is to try to make a comeback during the 26-lap race .

Lorenzo Baldassarri - Team Gresini Moto2 - was the unlucky protagonist of a high side: landed on his heels, he suffered a small fracture to his right heel. The young Italian rookie wants to participate in tomorrow’s race and will undergo a check in the medical center tomorrow morning to know if he’s fit to ride.

XAVIER SIMEON (11th - 1'38"112)
“We improved our lap times compared to yesterday, but the position has not changed: we are struggling to find the right feeling with the bike, although actually we lack only a few tenths to stay at the top. I'm struggling with the front end and in some corners I lose too much time. Obviously I'm not very happy with the result: we need to work to find a solution for the race. At the moment I do not know what to expect tomorrow: surely there will be time to recover positions, because 26 laps are a lot, but I don’t want to make predictions; I hope that the situation will be more clear tomorrow after the Warm Up. However, I will give my best, as always”.

LORENZO BALDASSARRI (29th - 1'39"462)
“I was at Turn 6, and as soon as I opened the throttle the bike threw me: I landed on my heels and unfortunately I suffered a small fracture to the right heel. I don’t feel pain, but I find it hard to walk: immediately after qualifying we started the therapy and now we just have to wait and see how the situation evolves, then tomorrow I'll undergo a check in the medical center to see if I will be able to participate in the race. I hope I can do it, even if in these conditions I can’t hope for a good result”.

FAUSTO GRESINI
“At the moment Siméon is not able to stop the bike on corner entry and turn it as he would like, therefore he lose valuable time. We are less than half a second from pole position, but the 11th position on the grid complicates things for tomorrow’s race. Of course we believe in Xavier’s potential, and we will continue to work with calm to try to get a good result tomorrow. I'm sorry for Baldassarri: I really hope he can recover quickly and that he can be able to take part in the race”.
