2014 Charlotte: Timothy Peters NASCAR Truck Race Recap

Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra team started the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway from the ninth position and never falling outside of the top 15, brought home a fifth-place result. In the opening laps, Peters reported to crew chief Marcus Richmond that he was battling a tight-handling condition. The No. 17 team made chassis adjustments to the red and white machine during routine pit stops in an effort to improve the Tundra's balance.

While running in the third position on lap 73, Peters narrowly missed making contact with a spinning truck. The tight condition persisted and the Providence, North Carolina, native drove hard to remain in the top 10. Following a lap-100 restart after the sixth caution of the night he temporarily slipped back to 14th, but the veteran driver battled back in the closing laps to take the checkered flag in the fifth position to earn his second top-five and third top-10 finish. Peters remains second in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship point standings, 11 points behind leader Matt Crafton.

Timothy Peters Quote:
"We had a fast Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra all day here at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It handled great during practice, but unfortunately due to the rain yesterday we never had the opportunity to practice at night which would have been closest to the race conditions. When we took the green flag we were just way too tight. Marcus (Richmond, crew chief) and the No. 17 guys did a great job adjusting on it all night during pit stops, and we just kept at it. If we keep putting together consistent finishes, I think we'll be contending for the championship at Homestead (Miami Speedway)."
