Kvsh Racing's Sebastien Bourdais Makes Field For 98th Running Of The Indianapolis 500

KVSH Racing driver Sebastien Bourdais will be competing in the 98th running of the Indianapolis 500, May 25, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana, but where he will start will not be determined until tomorrow.

Bourdais, who pilots the No. 11 HYDROXYCUT/MISTIC E-Cigs - KVSH Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone machine, posted a four-lap average speed of 228.388 mph, placing him 24th on the provisional grid. Under the new Indianapolis 500 qualifying format, because he was in the top-30, Bourdais has assured himself a spot in the field for the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing." His starting position, however, will not be determined until tomorrow when the second round of qualifying takes place and the entire field's grid positions will be set.

"I had a nice run, flat out," Bourdais said. "We stayed on top of the balance pretty good. The Hyrdoxycut/Mistic E-Cigs machine was strong, but just not strong enough. Our cars were all very close in speed, so it is what it is. We spent a lot of time on our race setup and I think we have a good one. We just didn't have a lot of practice time in qualifying trim because of the weather. We still have tomorrow's qualifying, so hopefully we can move up the grid."

Bourdais will be contesting his fourth Indy 500. In three previous races, he has a best starting position of 15th in 2005 and 2013. His best finish is 12th in 2005. Bourdais is coming off a fourth-place showing in the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis, which snapped a streak of three consecutive double-digit finishes in the first three races of the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season. He currently sits 10th in the championship standings with 81 points, just 21 out of fifth place.

Born in Le Mans France, Bourdais, 35, is the only driver to win four consecutive U.S. open-wheel championships (2004 -2007). He has won 31 races (eighth all-time) and earned 31 poles (seventh all-time). Bourdais competed in 27 Formula One races (2008 - 2009) and has an impressive endurance racing record, including a victory at the 2014 Rolex 24-Hour and a third at the 2014 12-Hour event at Sebring.

Tomorrow's qualifying to determine the pole and the final grid positions begins at 10:15 a.m. ET and will also be broadcast live on ABC from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

The 2014 Indianapolis 500 will be the 98th running of the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing." It has been held every year since the first race in 1911 except the war years of 1917-1918 and 1942-1945. The race will take place May 25, 2014, and will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 11 a.m. (ET).
