Mercatali Takes Maiden Eurov8series Win For BMW

Niccolò Mercatali handed BMW their first win of the EUROV8SERIES season today at Mugello. Starting as one of the home favorites, he cruised to victory in Race 2 on his M3 race car prepared by Team BMW Dianmic. Mercatali took the lead at the start and never looked back. He even survived a safety car situation due to a crash that involved Francesco Sini and his Solaris Motorsport Chevrolet Camaro. At the re-start, Mercatali pulled away and topped Nicola Baldan, who had won Race 1 on the Mercedes C63 AMG fielded by R.R.T. The podium was completed, for the second time today, by Domenico Schiattarella and the Solaris Motorsport-prepared Chevrolet Lumina.

The battle for the podium was quite heated and involved several drivers including Max Mugelli, on a BMW M3, and Ermanno Dionisio and Davide Stancheris. The two Audi racers crossed the line less than one thousand of a second adrift, and a photo review was needed by the stewards to hand Dionisio 5th place.

The 46 points scored at Mugello brought Baldan a comfortable lead in standings. He’s showing the way with 96 points in total in front of Audi’s Tomas Kostka. The Czech ended up in 8th behind Maurizio Copetti (BMW) and is now holding second place with 84 points. Mercatali made a great jump to third with 82 points while fourth place is shared by Sini and Stancheris (71).

For the next round, the EUROV8SERIES will be crossing the Italian borders for the first of its three European rounds on June 22nd at Brno.

Race 2 (top-5): 1. Niccolò Mercatali (BMW M3 E92 – Team BMW Dinamic) 13 laps, 28’38.897; 2. Nicola Baldan (Mercedes C63 AMG Coupé – R.R.T.) at 2.463; 3. Domenico Schiattarella (Chevrolet Lumina – Solaris Motorsport) at 3.640; 4. Max Mugelli (BMW M3 E92 – Team BMW Dinamic) at 4.028; 5. Ermanno Dionisio (Audi RS5 – Audi Sport Italia) at 9.204.

Drivers Standings (top-5): 1. Baldan 96 points; 2. Kostka 84; 3. Mercatali 82; 4. Sini e Stancheris 71.
