Eurov8series - Mugello Race 1

Nicola Baldan took his first EUROV8SERIES win at Mugello. Driving the R.R.T. Mercedes C63 AMG Coupé, Baldan made a perfect start and after scoring two second-place finishes at Monza and Vallelunga. Starting in third, he powered away to the the lead and never looked back.

“I expected more tire wear from the half point on - said Baldan - but I didn’t experience any, maybe thanks to a perfect set-up”. Baldan also had to fend of the attacks of pole-sitter Max Mugelli. The Team BMW Dinamic racer stayed close behind him throughout the whole distance but didn’t manage to make the pass. The third step on the podium went to Domenico Schiattarella, who was driving a Chevrolet Lumina for Solaris Motorsport.

Diego Romanini, campaigning a Mercedes C63 AMG for Caal Racing, made his way to fourth as he successfully defended himself from many opponents, including Maurizio Copetti (BMW M3), Tomas Kostka (Audi RS5) and Niccolò Mercatali (BMW M3), who finished in order behind him at the end. Unfortunately Davide Stancheris, driving an Audi RS5, was forced to retire after being part of the same pack. Francesco Sini also had a tough time. The former series leader started as the favorite but suffered from a radiator issue, a similar problem to the one he had in qualifying.

It’s been an even more valuable win for Baldan considering that it brought him to top in standings. He has 75 points now and is tied to Kostka. Sini is following five points back as he scored only one. Stancheris (60) tops Mercatali (57) and Copetti (54).

Race 2 will be starting at 15:15 PM with Leonardo Baccarelli (Mercedes) and Mercatali sharing the front row thanks to the reverse grid format.

Race 1 (top-5): 1. Nicola Baldan (Mercedes C63 AMG Coupé – R.R.T.) 14 laps, 27’54.783; 2. Max Mugelli (BMW M3 E92 – Team BMW Dinamic) at 0.629; 3. Domenico Schiattarella (Chevrolet Lumina – Solaris Motorsport) at 10.017; 4. Diego Romanini (Mercedes C63 AMG – Caal Racing) at 20.919; 5. Maurizio Copetti (BMW M3 E92 – Team BMW Dinamic) at 21.170.

Drivers’ Standings (top-5): 1. Baldan e Kostka 75 points; 3. Sini 70; 4. Stancheris 60; 5. Mercatali 57.
