Rookie James Davison Retains 28th Starting Spot With Solid Indianapolis 500 Qulifying Effort

Another day, another qualifying run, and Indianapolis 500 rookie James Davison is still in the 28th starting position for the race a week from today.

Davison, piloting the No. 33 KV Racing Technology/Always Evolving Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone, bettered his four-lap qualifying speed to 228.865 mph, but so did most other drivers in the field. The net result was an improvement of 0.7 mph from the Australian's run Saturday, but it kept him on the inside of row 10 when the 33-car grid takes the green flag for the 98th running of the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing."

"It was fast, but not quite fast enough," Davison said. "We ran our first 229 (mph lap) by ourselves, so that was good. I'm aware that it's all about the race, so from now on we focus on that and get the car to handle well in traffic. The conditions were perfect today, this is the best the weather has been in quite a few days. Considering how little track time we've had, we have to be pleased with the qualifying result. I'm just excited to be here, sporting the Always Evolving colors and looking forward to a good race."

Davison is one of four KV Racing Technology drivers at Indianapolis, joining Sebastien Bourdais (No. 11 Hydoxycut/Mistic E-Cigs - KVSH Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone, who qualified 17th), Townsend Bell (No. 6 Robert Graham - KV Racing Technology Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone, qualified 25th) and Sebastian Saavedra (No. 17 KV AFS Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone, qualified 32nd) on the defending Indianapolis 500 champion team.

Two practice sessions remain before the May 25 race - from noon to 5 p.m. ET Monday and the traditional Carburetion Day session from 11 a.m. to noon ET Friday. The 2014 Indianapolis 500 airs on ABC, the IMS Radio Network, Sirius 213, XM 209 and at www.indycar.com beginning at 11 a.m. ET Sunday, May 25.
