KV Racing Technology's Townsend Bell Solidly In The Field For 98th Running Of The Indianapolis 500

KV Racing Technology driver Townsend Bell put the No. 6 Robert Graham - KV Racing Technology Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone car solidly in the field today for the 98th running of the Indianapolis 500, May 25 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Bell assured himself a spot in the race yesterday during round one of the newly revamped Indy 500 qualifying system. During today's second round, he qualified in the first group, with cars that qualified 10-33 yesterday, and recorded a four-lap average speed of229.009 mph to place him 25th on the final grid. He will start on the inside of row nine.

"We had good balance on the run in the Robert Graham - KV Racing Technology car," Bell said. "I'm just not quite sure why we aren't putting up the numbers we expected. It was nice to see (teammate Sebastien) Bourdais pick up a lot of speed, so maybe we can learn something there. We will keep rubbing on the car. Race trim-wise, I am happy with the car, so we are excited to get to race day."

Bell, 39, who competes full-time in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, driving for AIM Autosport with Ferrari and is part of the Verizon IndyCar Series NBC broadcast team, will be contesting his eighth Indy 500 next Sunday. In seven previous appearances at the Brickyard, the California native has a best qualifying position of fourth in 2011 and has earned three top-10 finishes with a best showing of fourth in 2009, coincidentally while competing with KV Racing Technology. Bell, who will be contesting his first event of the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season, second with KVRT and 37th of his IndyCar career, has completed a remarkable 1,308 laps at the Speedway.

The 2014 Indianapolis 500 will be the 98th running of the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing." It has been held every year since the first race in 1911 except the war years of 1917-1918 and 1942-1945. The race will take place May 25, 2014, and will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 11 a.m. (ET).
