2014 Iowa: Ryan Reed NASCAR Nationwide Race Recap

Ryan Reed rallied to a 16th-place finish in his first NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Iowa Speedway, after starting at the rear of the field due to a radiator change after qualifying. The Roush Fenway Racing (RFR) rookie ran a clean race in order to earn his seventh top-20 finish for the American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop DiabetesSM presented by Lilly Diabetes team.

“I want to thank my guys for working so hard all weekend,” said Reed. “We had a fast Drive to Stop Diabetes Mustang, but just couldn’t roll the center as well as the guys up front. We’ll take a 16th-place finish and move on to Charlotte, a track I’m really excited to get back to.”

The No. 16 Ford Mustang ended Saturday’s qualifying session in 15th, but was forced to start at the back of the field due to a radiator change after qualifying.

After 20 laps into the 250-lap race, Reed found himself just outside the top-20 in 23rd. His march to the front stalled as the car became too tight on the long run.

Crew Chief Seth Barbour called his rookie driver down pit road during the first caution period of the day, electing for four tires and fuel as well as a chassis adjustment on Lap 43. A fast pit stop by the No. 16 crew gained the team three positions, restarting 19th.

On the next run, Reed continued his march, cracking into the top-15. Another fast pit stop under caution by the No. 16 team on Lap 106 propelled Reed into 13th.

Reed ran the balance of the race inside the top-20, finishing 16th after the final 31-lap green flag run of the race.
