Lime Rock Porsche GT3 USA Races Start Busy Memorial Day Weekend For Kelly Moss Motorsports

Kelly Moss Motorsports is looking to stay atop the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Team Championship with another strong performance May 23-24 at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut.

After five podium finishes May 3-4 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Kelly Moss leads the Team Championship in the Platinum Cup and is a close fourth - just four points out of the top spot - in the Gold Cup.

"We want to try and open up the gap and increase that lead," Vice President Jeff Stone said. "Lime Rock is a hard track. The key is to stay out of trouble and stay on the lead lap. It's a short track, and you can never really recover from mistakes."

Young Kelly Moss driver Colin Thompson also leads the GT3 USA Platinum championship with 64 points, six ahead of Michael Lewis, who swept Rounds 3 and 4 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

"Lime Rock is really my home track," Thompson said. "My first-ever road race was there. A lot of the drivers in the series don't have that experience, so I think it gives me the competitive edge. I just have to stay consistent, and if I do that, then I have a good feeling I'm going to end up at the top of the podium."

William "Wild Bill" Peluchiwski will look to climb the standings in the Gold Cup with his No. 74 Porsche on the seven-turn, 1.5-mile circuit at Lime Rock. Peluchiwski moved into second in the Gold Masters and fourth overall in the Gold Cup at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Also racing for Kelly Moss in Rounds 5 and 6 of the series will be Dan Weyland and Frank Selldorff.

Platinum Masters competitor Weyland is hoping for redemption after a rough weekend at Mazda Raceway. He was hit on the first lap of the first race, with the damage to his 911 GT3 Cup car too severe for him to compete in the second race.

"My focus is to reacquaint myself with Lime Rock," Weyland said. "It's been awhile for me. It's a vey tight track, and it will be wet. I've been working in my simulator to get back into it. With the wreck at Mazda, my goal is going to be to bring it home clean without a scratch on it and finish as high up as I can."

Selldorff, from Boston, will make his season debut with the team in a Gold Cup Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.

"We're really glad to have him back in the seat," Stone said. "He's driven for us for a few years, took some time off, and we're happy to have him rejoin us in the same car he's driven before."

Practice at Lime Rock Park starts at 10 a.m. (ET) and 1:20 p.m. Friday, May 23, with qualifying at 4:05 p.m. Friday. Two 45-minute races are scheduled for Saturday, May 24, with the first at 12:35 p.m. and the second at 5:10 p.m.

The two races at Lime Rock Park are just the start of a busy weekend for Kelly Moss.

Immediately after the race, team officials will return to their home of Madison, Wisconsin, to prepare for the inaugural Cruise In/Custom Car Show at Brat Fest, the world's largest bratwurst festival, on Sunday, May 25 in Madison. Kelly Moss is hosting the car show, which includes up to 50 unique cars.

"It's a very hectic weekend for us," Stone said. "Part of our team won't be in Lime Rock but will be busy prepping for the car show and getting our display ready to go there. We're excited to be there and are expecting 250,000 people to see these awesome cars lined up."

Kelly Moss will also have six entries, including Thompson, Peluchiwski and Selldorff, in the Porsche Club of America race, The Clash of the Glen, at Watkins Glen International the following week.
