Burton Racing Looking To Shine At Lime Rock Park

Following a strong showing at Laguna Seca which included a season-first top-five finish for the team, Burton Racing returns to Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut this weekend ready for the Northeast Grand Prix which sets the stage for Round 4 of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge championship.

Fresh off a storming run all the way from 14th on the grid to just a step off of the podium in fourth in Monterey, Terry Borcheller and co-driver Mike LaMarra who campaign the No. 23 BMW Automotive Chemicals/Excelda BMW 128i in the ST class hope to carry their momentum into Saturday’s race. The pair also brings a healthy amount of experience to the track that has netted positive results in the past.

Borcheller is very familiar with the track, with a total of 11 IMSA starts at Lime Rock and highlights including the pole position in 2000 followed up by back-to-back wins in 2000 and 2001. Adding to the laundry list of accomplishments, Borcheller and LaMarra combined for a top-five finish in last year’s race at the track to secure the championship in dramatic fashion.

Connor Bloum and Greg Strelzoff, drivers of the sister Burton Racing No. 22 Gold Eagle BMW 128i in the ST division, arrive at the quick 1.50-mile circuit with their own set of positive memories from the track.

In last year’s race, the duo scored a podium finish after an excellent drive all the way from the back of the starting grid while driving a BMW for Bimmerworld Racing. Bloum also remembers the track fondly as it gave him one of his first tastes of the podium in the Skip Barber Racing Series in 2011.

“We’ve run well at Lime Rock so we’re looking forward to the weekend,” said Team Manager Keith Burton. “All of our drivers have a lot of experience at the track so it should be a good race. Laguna was a nice result for the No. 23 car, and we want to just keep capitalizing every weekend. We are focused on the big picture and just clicking off several positive results toward the championship.”

Unlike every other event on the 2014 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge schedule, the shorter length of the Lime Rock Park ‘bullring’ circuit sees the GS and ST classes compete separately. Burton Racing aims to use that to its advantage as traffic will be less of an issue as the team looks to bring home its first podium finish of the year and pursues the 2014 championship.

The weekend format will also give Borcheller and LaMarra a chance to take on another race as the duo will join Fall-Line Motorsports in GS competition, driving the BMW M3 for the squad. The outing marks a new chapter in a long history with the team, which originally built the BMW 128i machines for Burton Racing before the team grew to take on that part of the effort ahead of winning the 2013 IMSA championship.
