Exclusive Autosport Impressive At The F1600 Duals Presented By Juniper Networks

Last weekend marked an exciting time for Canadian F1600 racing - the inaugural F1600 Super Series began. Races 1 & 2, The Duals presented by Juniper Networks, were held during the Castrol Canada Victoria Day Speedfest at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. Exclusive Autosport showed strong throughout the event, sweeping both Toyo Tires F1600 A-class wins and both third place spots on the A-class podium.

Tristan DeGrand posted the fastest time in qualifying to sit on Pole for Race 1 Saturday in his #93 Exclusive Autosport / Spectrum / Sparco / Honda. His teammate Max Hanratty (driver of the #91 Juniper Networks / Exclusive Autosport / Spectrum / Sparco / Honda) qualified on the front row in second. Jayson Clunie in the #90 Exclusive Autosport / Spectrum / Sparco / Exclusive Management Inc. / Honda posted the next fastest qualifying time for Exclusive Autosport to put him on the second row in 4th position to start Race One. Jeffrey Kingsley put his #92 Exclusive Autosport / Spectrum / Sparco / Honda / Whitby Toyota Scion in 8th position Saturday.

When the green flag waved, DeGrand took the early lead, however Hanratty battled with him. They exchanged positions a few times, before DeGrand nabbed the top spot and started to open up a gap. Hanratty dropped back to third and was in a heated battle with Chase Pelletier and Craig Willis for the final spot on the podium. DeGrand was first to take the checkered flag. Hanratty followed in third position.

Meanwhile, Kingsley made up a few spots off the start and found himself in sixth position. He pushed to catch the pack battling for the third spot, however wasn’t able to get close enough to challenge for the final podium position. He took the checkered flag in sixth.

Clunie however lost a few position at the start of the race. He rallied back in his #90 Exclusive Autosport / Sparco / Spectrum / Honda to finish well into the top ten in seventh position.

Exclusive Autosport was looking for another successful day at the track on Sunday. DeGrand qualified on the front row again, however in P2 (0.033 seconds off of the pole sitter Pelletier) to start Sunday’s race. Hanratty started on the second row in P4, Kingsley in P7 and Clunie in P10.

DeGrand took the lead from Pelletier at the drop of the green flag and began to open up a wide gap between him and the rest of the field. His nearly eight second lead continued to widen as the battle for second and third ensued behind him.

On the eighth lap, Hanratty was involved in a racing incident between he and another competitor. He was hit and pushed off track, he spun and hit the wall in corner eight. A disappointing finish to a successful weekend for Hanratty.

Kingsley, and Clunie, who were both on solid runs, took advantage of the full-course caution and resulting restart and made their way towards the front of the field. Kingsley navigated his way from seventh position up to third where he took the checkered flag. Clunie, who started in tenth position drove his way to finish in the top five.

The Exclusive Autosport team now sit 1st (DeGrand), 3rd (Kingsley), 5th (Clunie) & 6th (Hanratty) in the overall championship standings after 4 races.

The team heads to Mont Tremblant, Quebec this weekend (May 23-25) for the opening rounds of the Toyo Tires Formula Tour 1600 Championship.

Tristan DeGrand, #93 Exclusive Autosport / Spectrum / Sparco / Exclusive Management Inc/ Honda Racing HPD / Pro Am Golf USA

“The results from Canadian Tire Motorsports Park this past weekend were just what we were looking for. The car was a dream to drive and din’t have one problem the whole weekend. The team has been working very had off the track to get the cars ready for the season and for each race. These results show how good of a crew we really have. We will take this momentum to the next event in Mont Tremblant, Quebec. I would like to thank Pro Am Golf USA, Exclusive Management Inc., Sparco USA and the entire Exclusive Autosport team.”

Jeffrey Kingsley, #92 Exclusive Autosport / Spectrum / Sparco / Exclusive Management Inc. / Honda Racing HPD / Whitby Toyota Scion

"This past weekend was a real handful for me. Going back and forth between the car track and the kart track in the 1600 and Rotax DD2 at CTMP was tough. Although I managed it and scored solid results, it was also a great learning experience for me. After only getting in one real session on Friday, Saturday we qualified 8th and finished 6th in the race. It wasn't the result that I had hoped for, but I just had to look forward to Sunday to get the result that I wanted. Sunday morning started off with practice in the karts where I had a quick time and right after I was in the car for qualifying and finished in the 7th position. I then went back to the kart track qualifying on pole, winning the pre-final, and winning the final. These results motivated me to give my best effort for a good result in the car. After having it tough, I managed to put the #92 Exclusive Autosport / Exclusive Management / Spectrum / Whitby Toyota Scion / Sparco / HPD car on the podium in the third spot. To be on the podium at an event like that was a great experience. I'd like to say thanks to Michael Duncalfe and the rest of the Exclusive Autosport team for the great, but tough weekend, and for all the encouragement throughout it.”
