Nielsen Seeks Strong Porsche GT3 Cup USA Weekend at Lime Rock Park

Christina Nielsen will continue to aim high as she competes along with the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama field May 23-24 at Lime Rock Park .

Most tracks on the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama schedule are new to series newcomer Nielsen, but she completed a Skip Barber Racing School session less than two weeks ago at the seven-turn, 1.5-mile road course. That class helped her gain some familiarity with the circuit, but she still expects challenges.

"I'm glad I spent some time on this track recently, but my Skip Barber Racing School day here was in a formula car, not a Porsche," she said. "There is a massive difference between the two types of race cars. There won't be a lot of time for me to feel the track or find a good setup."

Nielsen, from Aarhus, Denmark, will have only 70 minutes of practice time Friday, May 23 in her No. 25 NGT Motorsport entry before qualifying for two 45-minute races Saturday, May 24.

Nielsen comes to Lime Rock after racing last weekend at Canada's crown-jewel road course, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park near Toronto. She used the season opener for the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin as a chance to earn more track time in her 911 GT3 Cup car and learn another track on the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama schedule. She earned hard-fought sixth- and 10th-place finishes.

On top of the concentration and hard work needed to race at an elite level around North America, Nielsen also manages to squeeze schoolwork into her schedule away from race weekends. She studies marketing and management communication at Aarhus University in her native Denmark.

"We've raced in beautiful places like Laguna Seca this year, but I haven't had much time for sightseeing because my college exams are right around the corner," she said. "Recently I've used my spare time to study."

But after the Lime Rock Park race weekend, Nielsen plans on taking some time to visit nearby New York City.

"I'm taking a few days after the Lime Rock Park races to explore New York with my fellow female racer Kristin Treager," Nielsen said. "I can't wait to explore the city."

Nielsen is tied for sixth in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Platinum Cup standings with 30 points.
