Kyle Gimple Set For Double-Duty At Lime Rock Park

Kyle Gimple will have a big day at Lime Rock Park on Saturday as he and Compass360 Racing co-driver Ryan Eversley are set for double-duty in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. The duo will take part in both the ST and GS race events tomorrow and are eager to move forward in each race after qualifying was rained out on Friday.

The rain was a disappointment for Gimple as he and Eversley had posted times within the top-10 throughout every session of the day.

Lime Rock Park saw a mix of track conditions on Friday as the day opened with a cool and damp track surface in the first practice session with the drivers welcomed by warmer temperatures and sunshine for the second session. Unfortunately, those sunny skies did not last for long as rain moved in just prior to qualifying and both sessions were canceled and turned into 15-minute practices.

Gimple utilized the track time during ST practice in wet conditions and turned the second fastest lap of the session in the No. 75 Children's Tumor Foundation/ HPD/Racing4research.org Honda Civi. And with similar weather predicted for tomorrow’s race day, the practice held promise for Gimple.

“What should have been qualifying ended up being a practice, so that was interesting,” offered Gimple. “But I have always loved the rain so I went out there and laid down a P1 time which held for most of the session even though we ended up P2 at the end. I left quite a bit of time on the table, I didn't really want to push the car too much since we have the race tomorrow. I feel pretty comfortable about the car we will have if it does rain tomorrow. I am going to have my work cut out for me just getting through traffic, but I think if I can get through traffic pretty quickly we should have a pretty good car for the rest of the race. If it is dry it is just going to be a normal Continental race for us. We are definitely hoping for rain.”

In addition to his full-time ST driving duties, Gimple also took the No. 77 CTF.org/ Touge Tuning/ Racing4research Subaru WRX STI out on track for the first time during Friday’s practice day.

“The GS car is going pretty well, we are getting the handling all figured out,” added Gimple. “I feel like we have it down pretty well but we are just lacking on power in fourth and fifth gear. The rain came out and cancelled GS qualifying as well, but every other lap Ryan (Eversley) was running in first position. But on a wet track the Subaru is going great and even in the dry I think we were still in the top-five. Over the course of a long run I think we might actually have the advantage. If the last fuel run goes green just on tire degradation alone we might be able to pick off quite a few guys, and if it is wet then we have a really good chance of doing really well.”

The Compass360 pair will start the ST race from 18th on the grid and the GS race from 26th.
