2014 Monaco GP: Formula One F1 Qualifying Results - Rosberg, Mercedes On Pole!

By Mike Sulka

In clear conditions, Nico Rosberg and his No. 6 Mercedes has taken a thrilling Formula One F1 pole for the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix on the streets of Monte Carlo with a lap of 1:15.989. For Rosberg, it is his second pole of the 2014 season, and sixth of his Formula One F1 career. It is also Rosberg's second career pole at the Monaco Grand Prix. His last Monaco Pole came in 2013.

For Mercedes it is the team's sixth - and sixth consecutive - Pole of the 2014 Formula One F1 season. Tomorrow, Mercedes will try to become the first constructor since McLaren - in 1988 - to win the first six Grand Prix of the season. Three teams have won the first five Grand Prix but failed to win six in the last 26 years.

Also qualifying on the front row was Lewis Hamilton and his No. 44 Mercedes with a lap of 1:16.048. The result gives Mercedes their third front-row lock-out of the year.

Rosberg set his best lap on his first attempt in Q3 qualifying. He was down a tenth on his second run, but missed his braking point and slid in to the run-off. Poor Hamilton, he was up on his time in the first sector, but couldn't improve since Rosberg's car brought out a yellow flag.

Running for best of the rest was Daniel Ricciardo and his No. 3 Red Bull who once again outqualfied his four-time Formula One F1 world champion teammate Sebastian Vettel who was fourth quick. Vettel was .15 seconds off the Australian's time.

Fernando Alonso and his No. 14 Ferrari will start fifth with Kimi Raikkonen and his No. 7 filling out row three.

Jean-Eric Vergne and his No. 25 Toro Rosso was hot all day, he'll start seventh with Kevin Magnussen (McLaren), Daniel Kvyat (Toro Rosso), and Sergio Perez (Force India) filling out the top ten qualifiers.

Q2 KO's: Felipe Massa (Williams), Pastor Maldonado (Lotus), Valtteri Bottas (Williams), Romain Grosjean (Lotus), Nico Hulkenberg (Force India), and Jenson Button (McLaren).

Q1 KO's: Max Chilton (Marussia), Marcus Ericsson (Caterham), Kamui Kobayashi (Caterham), Jules Bianchi (Marussia), Adrian Sutil (Sauber), and Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber).

In Q1, Marcus Ericsson and his No. 9 Caterham hit Felipe Massa and his No. 19 Williams. Massa had clearly pulled over to let the Caterham driver past, but Ericsson was unable to complete a rudimentary maneuver. Such is life at the back of the grid. Unfortunately, Massa couldn't continue qualifying.

Pirelli tyres this weekend - supersoft (red) & soft (yellow). Each driver must use each compound during the event. A driver reaching the top ten (Q3) will be required to start on the compound they qualified on.
