2014 Monaco GP: Formula One F1 Race Results - Rosberg, Mercedes Win!

By Mike Sulka

Mercedes Formula One F1 driver Nico Rosberg picked up a great win at the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo. For Rosberg, it it his second win of the 2014 season and 5th career Formula One F1 victory - 17th career podium. It was also his second win at Monte Carlo which ties him with Fernando Alonso for most wins among current Formula One F1 drivers. He also is the first driver since Alonso (2006, 2007) to claim back-to-back wins in the principality. Rosberg now leads the 2014 Formula One F1 world drivers points championship.

For Mercedes, it was the team's sixth victory of the year and sixth straight triumph. The team also claimed their fifth one-two of the season. The victory marked the team's 19th all-time as a constructor. With the triumph, Mercedes becomes the first team since 1988 - McLaren - to win the opening six Grand Prix of the season. McLaren would go on to win the first 11 Grand Prix of that season.

Finishing second was Hamilton and his No. 44 who claimed his fifth podium of the year, and 59th of his career. Hamilton had no significant chance to take victory, and in the waning laps complained he had something in his eye.

Picking up his second career podium was Daniel Ricciardo and his No. 3 Red Bull. The Australian made a late charge on the ailing Hamilton, but was unable to overtake him.

Fernando Alonso and his No. 14 Ferrari would take fourth, while Nico Hulkenberg and his No. 27 Force India would round out the top five.

The Safety car made an early showing on lap one - the fifth time in the last five years it has been deployed - after Jenson Button (McLaren) punted Sergio Perez and his Force India at Mirabeau.

Sebastian Vettel and his No. 1 Red Bull continued to have trouble as he retired early due to a "loss of power".

The second Safety Car of the day appeared on lap 26 after Adrian Sutil and his No. 99 Sauber clouted the barrier exiting the tunnel.

Valtteri Bottas (Williams) retired early with smoke pouring from the rear of his car. Both Toro Rosso drivers also retired with mechanical issues.

Next up, the Formula One F1 series will race at the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix in two weeks.
