Ghiotto Recovers To 14th Place In Monte-Carlo F.Renault 3.5 Round

Luca Ghiotto's F.Renault 3.5 weekend in Monaco ended on a high with a stunning recovery drive. The Italian youngster, who had to cope with a crash in Thursday's free practice and a difficult qualifying session on Saturday, upped his pace considerably in today's race and managed to recover six places on a track that is widely renowned as a "no overtaking" venue.

From P20 on the grid Ghiotto nailed a lightning-quick getaway, passing four cars already before entering the famed Sainte Devote corner. From then on he kept 16th for most of the race, but while doing that he improved his laptimes steadily, even beating the best time he had clocked in qualifying. That paid dividends, because late into the race he could take advantage from mistakes by other drivers to recover another couple of places and cross the line in P14.
Now for Luca it's already time to think to the next challenge: the championship's fourth round is scheduled for next weekend already, and it will bring Ghiotto on another legendary F.1 track, Spa-Francorchamps.

Luca Ghiotto - P14:
"Compared to Free Practice and Qualifying, today was a bliss for me. Finally, with some more miles under my belt, I felt confident enough to push and it's easy to see that looking at my laptimes. Despite embarking much more fuel, my race pace has been steadily quicker than my qualifying lap, sometimes by nearly a full second, so potential was definitely there. It's a pity but it's racing, especially in Monaco".
