Avf And Amberg Just Shy Of A Top Five Finish In Monaco

The Monaco F.Renault 3.5 weekend ended on a positive note for AVF as Zoel Amberg took the flag in sixth place and Beitske Visser completed another error-free race to add more miles to her experience.

After qualifying 7th yesterday with a brilliant drive through the streets of Monte-Carlo, Amberg lined-up on row 4 on the grid and from there, thanks to a perfect start, he got to P6 before the famed Sainte Devote corner. From then on, on a track that offers no overtaking chances at all, Zoel's race was aimed at keeping the position, fending off incoming attacks from fellow rival Pierre Gasly. The Swiss talent used all his racecraft to manage the gap, close all the doors when needed and crossed the line in 6th place, just shy of a top 5 finish.
Dutch rookie Beitske Visser did an amazing job too: starting the race from 19th spot on the grid the girl from Dronten drove a flawless race, putting more miles under her belt and making the most of mistakes from other drivers to recover to P17. As a testament to her improvements, in the race Beitske equalled her qualifying pace on worn tyres and a heavy fuel load, a clear proof that her learning process on the calendar's most peculiar track has paid dividends.

Zoel Amberg - P6
"My start was quite good but then Sainz braked very early in front of me and I had to react quickly to avoid a big crash. I just touched him, with some light damage to my nosecone, but luckily it was nothing major and I could go on with my race. It was a good one, but still as difficult as they come considering how unforgiving this track can be. The first part of the race was the best for me, as I was quick and I managed to keep contact with the cars in front. Then, later into the race, my rear tyres started suffering a bit and the car started sliding, which is not what you want when the armcos are so close. Anyway, I was still quick enough to keep Gasly at bay, and 6th place is a good result here".

Beitske Visser - P17
"I really enjoyed the race, I was quite cautious at the start but then I pushed harder with every lap, as my confidence with the track has increased a lot from Thursday. If you look at my laptimes from the race you will see that despite being on a full load of fuel I've been close to my qualifying pace for a long time, and frankly I couldn't ask for more. You know, this year for me it's just to learn, next season when I will come to Monaco I'll know all the tricks and it will be a different story".
