Excellent First Stint For Nico Verdonck In Silverstone

Having set-off in 8th position of this second round of the BES at the wheel of the HTP Motorsport Mercedes SLS supported by ALD, Nico Verdonck within the first minutes of the race had climbed up into 6th spot. 34 minutes later he had gained another place and after the first race hour he was up in 4th position a mere 21 seconds behind the leader.

Following the mandatory pitstop Harold Primat, who felt less at ease during the beginning of his stint soon found the perfect pace. With the third stint a great deal of hope rested on the shoulders of Bernd Schneider, a highly experienced driver and fivefold DTM champion.

As was hoped “Mr DTM” seized every opportunity and finally crossed the line in 6th place.

This round of the Blancpain Endurance Series left the team with rather half-hearted results despite Nico’s very good start.

Nico Verdonck: “I gave it my all and I believe I truly proved my worth climbi ng up from 8th to 4th spot. During the third stint, and after the Safety Car period Bernd did what he could. We were rather lacking in performance but notwithstanding that the overall result is satisfactory. Once again the Mercedes proved that it has guts. She was well prepared but the McLaren and Bentley cars really stood out. I’m personally happy with my lap times and I believe that all in all we can be satisfied. We have scored some good points in the Championship and I know that we have the potential to produce better results in the following rounds.”

The following meeting is scheduled for 27th-28th June on the French Paul Ricard circuit prior to the most important race of the series for Nico, on home ground, in Belgium and in front of his fans with the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps where in fact he will be the only Belgian competing with Mercedes.

In the meantime the race at the Paul Ricard circuit on 28th June can be followed live on the Blancpain Endurance Series website: http://www.blancpain-gt-series.com/live
