A Strong Showing By Rowe Racing In Lausitzring ADAC GT Masters Round

The ROWE RACING team continues its progress in its maiden ADAC GT Masters season. At Lausitzring, the venue of the third season round of the sprint series, the German team entered two SLS AMG GT3s for the first time and thus scored four top ten results with eighth place (Alguersuari/Bastian) and ninth position (Engel/Seyffarth) on Saturday and fifth (Engel/Seyffarth) and seventh (Alguersuari/Bastian) on Sunday.

ROWE RACING already made the headlines prior to the race with the announcement of the line-up in its second gullwing, in which ex-Formula 1 driver Jaime Alguersuari (Spain) is sharing driving duties with Nico Bastian (Germany). For the two 24-year-olds, it was their maiden outing in the ADAC GT Masters. The duo showed a particularly strong performance and with fast lap times, they made their mark in the super sports car league right away. With ROWE RACING’s sister car, Maro Engel (Monaco) and Jan Seyffarth (Germany) particularly delivered a faultless performance in the second race and again scored valuable points for the drivers’ and teams’ championship standings.

ROWE RACING’s team principal, Hans-Peter Naundorf: "This was a great weekend of racing for us. With both cars, we showed an excellent performance and we are really satisfied. Our two driver pairings are working together very well and the rest of the team worked in perfect harmony, too. On Saturday already, our intense preparations for the weekend paid off and on Sunday, we were not only able to repeat our good performance from Saturday, but we even managed to do better. Entering a second car was the right decision. Now, we are already looking forward to our next event at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

RACE 01: Saturday, 24 May 2014
Nico Bastian and Jaime Alguersuari started their ADAC GT Masters debut at the 4.534 kilometres long Lausitzring from ninth place on the grid. Jan Seyffarth and Maro Engel started the race on Saturday from 14th position. Nico Bastian was the first driver behind the steering wheel of the gullwing sports car with starting number 22. With fast lap times, he managed to make up a few positions during his race and he handed over the car to his team-mate in a promising position at the halfway mark. During the driver change, however, the team had to deal with technical problems that cost some time. Once the car was back on track, Alguersuari also showed a strong effort and eventually brought the SLS AMG GT3 home in a good eighth place. Driving the second SLS with starting number 23, Jan Seyffarth took the first turn. The 27-year-old professional driver had a good start, but then had to take a detour through the gravel to avoid a collision. After that, Seyffarth and his team-mate Engel managed to make up five places in total thanks to a strong performance and crossed the finish line in ninth place after 43 laps.

RACE 02: Sunday, 25 May 2014
From eleventh place (Engel) and twelfth position (Alguersuari) on the grid, ROWE RACING’s two Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3s started into the race at Lausitzring on Sunday. At the start, both gullwings managed to make up positions. Maro Engel even moved up six places. Jaime Alguersuari slotted into tenth place. During the driver change after half the race distance, Maro Engel handed the car to Jan Seyffarth in sixth place. Nico Bastian took over the car with starting number 22 in tenth place. Seyffarth defended his position from his rivals in thrilling duels. On the final lap of the one-hour sprint race, he improved to fifth overall. Just after the driver change, Nico Bastian moved up into ninth place and continued his progress to eighth with a spectacular overtaking move. In the closing stages of the race, Bastian also benefited from a collision by two rivals and came home seventh.

ROWE RACING’s next ADAC GT Masters race event will take place at the Red Bull Ring from 6 till 8 June, 2014. The two races at the circuit in Austria mark the end of the first half of the season prior to a summer break of over two months.

Highlights can be watched, among others, on Friday, 30 May, 2014, from 12.00 till 13.00 hrs on SPORT1.
