2014 NHRA: Past Englishtown Winner Morgan Gunning For More At Summernationals

Lucas Oil/MAVTV Pro Stock driver hopes lightning strikes twice -- even if 10 years apart -- during this weekend's Toyota NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

The veteran Pro Stock driver went to victory lane at the famed racetrack in 1994, beating Darrell Alderman in the final round.

"Has it really been 10 years since we won there?" Morgan asked. "I guess I'm getting old. No, that was a great day, but any time you win is a great day, right? It'd sure be nice to be able to do it again."

Morgan has been racing in Pro Stock since 1987, winning 10 times. During that span, he has raced in Englishtown countless times and has always been a fan favorite.

"Englishtown has been around forever, kind of like me," Morgan said. "It's one of the famous tracks on the tour, and we always enjoy coming back up here. The fans there love Pro Stock, so I expect to see a lot of them around the trailer this weekend."

Morgan is 12th in the Pro Stock points standings, but he's only 11 points out of 10th place, with the top 10 reaching the Countdown to the Championship, NHRA's playoffs.

That's a worthy goal for Morgan and his small team, as he competes with a three-man crew, not including himself and wife Diane. Many Pro Stock teams have twice the manpower, but Morgan is determined to make due with what he has.

"We haven't had the best season so far, but that just shows you how tough it is to do what we do with what we've got," Morgan said. "(Son) Nick (Morgan) and all the guys have worked so hard, and they deserve to see some results. Forrest and Charlotte Lucas deserve to see some, too, so it's up to us to do that. We'll be fine."

Four rounds of Pro Stock qualifying will feature sessions at 4 and 6:15 p.m., Friday, and 12:45 and 3:15 p.m., Saturday. Eliminations are slated to start at 11 a.m., Sunday. Both qualifying and elimination action will be broadcast on ESPN2.
