The FIA WTCC Race of Belgium, which will mark the return of the FIA WTCC to Spa-Francorchamps, was officially presented during a press conference in Brussels on Wednesday. The landmark track in the Belgian Ardennes, which has a rich tradition in touring car racing, is back in the calendar of the FIA WTCC on next 21-22 June, nine years after it was first visited by WTCC racers in 2005.

In the prestigious framework of Autoworld, the automobile museum located in the Parc du Cinquantenaire at the heart of the European capital, the Director of the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps Pierre-Alain Thibaut, the event promoter Jean-François Chaumont and the WTCC General Manager François Ribeiro revealed all the details of the June event, which will offer a particularly attractive programme. Along touring cars of the WTCC and the ETCC, fans will have the possibility to enjoy also GT cars and single-seaters, thanks to the GT Tour and the FIA European F.3.

WTCC stars Yvan Muller (Citroën Total), Gabriele Tarquini (Castrol Honda Racing) and Tom Coronel (ROAL Motorsport) attended the press conference and explained their special bond with Spa-Francorchamps, which is considered as their ‘home track’ also by many fans living in neighboring France, Germany and Netherlands. The WTCC drivers’ delegation was joined by GT and sportscar ace André Lotterer, who will take part in the GT Tour race.

Attending media and Autoworld visitors could admire the Citroën C-Elysée and the Honda Civic WTCC exposed for the occasion together with the Team WRT Audi R8 LMS GT car.

In Short...

The Honda Civic and Chevrolet RML Cruze cars will run with 20 extra kilos on board in the next WTCC event at the Moscow Raceway. According to the calculation of the Compensation Weight based on the three previous events - Hungary, Slovakia and Austria - the Citroën C-Elysée remains the reference model and receives the maximum compensation weight of 60 kg in addition to the minimum weight of 1100 kg.

However, for the first time since the Compensation Weight has been applied at the Hungaroring, Honda and Chevrolet will carry ballast as well.

This is the consequence of the fact that the Civic and Cruze cars have further reduced their gap from the French vehicles to 0.7 seconds.

Only the LADA Granta cars will keep on running with no compensation weight added.

Compensation weight Moscow Raceway

+ 60 kg: Citroën C-Elysée

+ 20 kg: Chevrolet RML Cruze, Honda Civic

± 0 kg: LADA Granta

Andy Priaulx, the driver that won the FIA WTCC title in the first three editions of the competition (2005-06-07), was cheered by everybody at the Salzburgring during an emotional return to the WTCC paddock.

The Guernsey driver was not on a holiday trip, as he commented the Race of Austria together with Martin Harven for the English-speaking viewers of Eurosport.

"It is extremely nice to be back to what I consider home!" admitted Andy, who is busy these days in US GT racing, "I am happy to meet again with some many friends, to see great cars and exciting racing, and to notice that the atmosphere is as friendly as ever." Andy’s presence allowed for a rare privilege: to have all the four World Champions in the WTTC’s history (Priaulx, Tarquini, Muller and Huff) framed in one single picture!

The catastrophic and tragic floods that have recently hit the Balkans, and notably Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia, have not left indifferent the entire WTCC community.

Led by Dušan Borković, who has witnessed the devastation in his own home country, WTCC drivers have expressed in many ways, through social media, their solidarity with the victims and their support to the various on-going relief campaigns.

The ROAL Motorsport team completed a brief test at the Adria International Raceway, Italy with Tom Coronel’s Chevrolet RML car. "It was more a shakedown than a proper test. We completed 40 laps with the aim of running in several sets of disc brakes," team Principal Roberto Ravaglia explained.

Stefano Colombo the 23-year old Italian driver who takes part in the Blancpain GT Series with ROAL Motorsport took the wheel of the Cruze TC1.

"Both Tom Chilton and Tom Coronel were not available for the test. And so we asked Stefano to drive. He was delighted to have the opportunity to drive the WTCC car and he did a very good job," Ravaglia explained.
