Draco And Fantin Steadily In The Top Five On Day 1 In Spa-Francorchamps

No time to rest for Draco Racing: just four days have passed since the Monaco F.Renault 3.5 round, but today the Zytek engines roared once again 1000 kilometers north of Monte-Carlo, in Spa-Francorchamps.

In the Ardennes woods magic scenery, on a track that is widely deemed as one of the most beautiful and challenging venues in motorsport, Draco Racing was quick straight out of the box: a top-notch job by the team's engineers gave Pietro Fantin and Luca Ghiotto very competitive machinery to tame the track's fast corners, allowing them to close the morning Free Practice session in P5 and P6 respectively.
Then, in the afternoon, the Brazilian talent went on to improve his time with a 1'59"661 that brought him up to P4, while Ghiotto ended the session in P15. The Italian youngster was still in good form in Free Practice 2, but he was hampered by steering gremlins which emerged after running wide in Les Combes and hitting the speed bumps quite hard. Despite not being able to make the most of new tyres because of that he's still upbeat and looking forward to tomorrow morning's qualifying session.

Pietro Fantin: FP1 - P5; FP2 - P4
"I'm really happy with the job we did today. After Alcaniz we had opted for some big setup tweaks, especially changing the suspension mounting points, but it was hard to tell the outcome of that on a unique track such as Monaco. Now, after this first day in Spa, we can definitely say that we changed for good, as my feeling with the car has improved considerably. We can still improve a bit here and there, but we're heading in the right direction. Apart from that, putting the sectors together will be paramount: it's something I didn't manage to do today, but I'll try even harder tomorrow".

Luca Ghiotto: FP1 - P6; FP2 - P15
"I really like Spa, last year I clinched a great win in F.Renault 2.0 here so I wasn't surprised this morning when I saw that good laptimes started coming pretty easily, even if it was my first time here with the FR3.5 car. Unluckily, while I was pushing hard I ran wide entering Les Combes and ended up on the speed bumps, slightly damaging my steering rack. That hampered my afternoon session too, but all in all the feeling with both the car and the track is good, so I believe we can aim for a good result tomorrow".
