Jordi Torres Recovers Confidence On A Mixed Day At Mugello

The first day of the Italian GP took place under heavy skies at Mugello today although thankfully the rain held off for the opening session of the weekend for the Moto2 class. In the afternoon the heavens opened, denying the riders the opportunity to improve their lap times but at least giving them time to find a wet setting in case of more rain over the rest of the weekend. Tito Rabat set the fastest time of the day this morning with a lap of 1'53.560, half a second outside the lap record set here in 2012.

Both MAPFRE Aspar riders Jordi Torres and Nico Terol arrived in Mugello with major changes planned for the setting of their bikes, using information from last year and a recent test at Valencia. The pair reported positive feedback following the opening session of the weekend but with no opportunity to make further improvements in the afternoon they ended the day in ninth and 23rd place respectively.

9th Jordi Torres 1.53.751 (31 laps): “We came to Mugello with some big changes planned and we got straight to work this morning. Luckily we could see immediately that the changes had worked well and by using the front end setting from last year we were able to iron out some of the chatter. I am getting much better feedback from the bike and it is not as harsh. I have gained confidence in the front end and it is easier for me to attack the track. I am happy because I am enjoying myself on the bike again.”

23rd Nico Terol 1.54.434 (32 laps): “We have started this Grand Prix working hard without getting too worried. We have used the information from last year to try and improve the base setting of the bike and my feeling was a little better this morning. I definitely felt more comfortable on the bike at the start of the session and even though we will have to make a couple of adjustments tomorrow we are on the right track. This afternoon it rained and we couldn't follow the plan we had but we took the opportunity to get confident in wet conditions. The team is working well so if we can get some dry time tomorrow I am sure we can take a big step forward.”
