Schrotter Powers Through Pain To Qualify In 10th

Marcel Schrotter produced an incredibly courageous display to bounce back from potentially withdrawing from Italian GP due to injuries sustained in FP2, to impressively qualifying in 10th position in the super competitive intermediate Moto2 class today. The young German rider fell during yesterday's wet afternoon session and suffered contusion to his right shoulder and wrist yet formidably powered through the pain to set a best time of 1.53,494 in FP3. In the afternoon qualifying session Schrotter worked relentlessly with his Tech3 Racing Team and determinedly produced a best lap time of 1.53,313 and just over half a second from the pole position to see him start on the fourth row of the grid for the 21 lap sprint around the 5245 metre, twisting Mugello circuit.

Meanwhile, stand in teammate Ricky Cardus landed 19th position on the grid for tomorrow's Moto2 race at the Tuscan circuit of Mugello. The young Spanish rider guided his Mistral 610 around the track to a best time of 1.53,905 which was just half a second from the top ten with the top 16 competitors being covered by only a second. Cardus will aim to undertake a rocket start and clinch another points scoring finish for the Tech3 Racing Team.

Marcel Schrotter : 10th - 1'53.494 - Laps : 19 Schrotter - Mugello - 2014

"First of all, I am quite happy that I can still ride with the injury so I am really pleased with the result in qualifying today. I had a lot of pain in my right shoulder and wrist yesterday and this morning it was a fight to even change clothes. The Clinca Mobile did a great job to get me on the bike however there is still some distance to full recovery. I am obviously riding with some discomfort, especially whilst changing direction on the bike but I am happy and that makes the 10th position even more of an accomplishment although I still feel that I could have done a little better. The most important thing to remember is that I did my quickest lap with no slipstream and also with a mistake in sector 3 in my fast lap, which gives me some confidence as therefore I know I can go quicker. As for tomorrow I hope that my shoulder can last the race so I can keep fighting until the end for a good result."

Ricky Cardus : 19th - 1'53.905 - Laps : 17 Cardus - Mugello - 2014

"Once again qualifying turn out to be a tricky experience for me. We have worked well all weekend but unfortunately our grid position is not reflected from all of our efforts. Still I can be satisfied with my performance because I managed to ride a good lap time and to finish only a second from the front is altogether encouraging. I find this track to be quite a challenging one as it is very technical and fast flowing. Despite feeling a little bit nervous at the beginning, I now feel upbeat about tomorrowĊs race and how everything has panned out. It will be long and tough but I will try to relax and enjoy it as much as possible whilst collecting some more points for the Tech3 Racing Team."
