Fiscus drove his late model Ford Mustang to the quickest run of the weekend, a performance of 5.851 seconds at 251.58 mph, during Friday’s qualifying. Fiscus followed his first No. 1 qualifying position with a first-round win over Dan Stevenson with a winning effort of 6.338 at 234.25. He faces No. 9 qualifier Eric Latino, who upset No. 8 seed Steve Matusek in the opening round.

Defending world champion Rickie Smith was the No. 3 qualifier, but fell in the first round to Jason Hamstra, who powered to a winning run of 5.866 at 244.47 in his turbocharged late model Mustang.

Pete Farber, Von Smith, Jim Bell and Mike Janis all advanced to the second round while No. 4 seed Danny Rowe – a two-time Englishtown winner – was upset in the first round by Clint Satterfield.
