The Grand Prix Drivers Club Unanimously Approves Reform Of The Constitution

The Grand Prix Drivers Club (GPDC), established in 1962 as CIAPGPF1 by nine former F1 drivers headed by Louis Chiron and Juan Manuel Fangio, held its General Assembly at Riccione (Italy) on Friday May 30, 2014 in the presence of former F1 drivers and club members from the association's 100 registered members.

Maria Teresa di Filippis personally welcomed the members in attendance. A moment of great emotion followed for all members when the Honorary President said from the podium: "So many warm thanks to all of you for coming from different parts of the world. I certainly hope that we see each other soon again as we all work around the same goal: to preserve the heritage of our sport and history and promote the roots and foundation of motorsport."

Before the start of the discussion, a minute of silence was observed by the club in honour of Sir Jack Brabham who passed away and Tim Schenken, ex F1 Brabham driver (1971) delivered an emotional few words about his great relationship with the very special champion who won three World Championships.

The club, whose current Honorary President is Maria-Teresa de Filippis, the first woman driver to compete in Formula 1, had decided following its meeting in Goodwood to solve issues that had to be addressed to amend the original constitution acts of the club, considering that they were drawn up in 1962 and had been revised in 2000. The new text prepared under responsibility of Mario Theissen Honorary Member and advisor to the GPDC was voted on and the new constitution was unanimously accepted and entered into action.

The General Assembly also approved the financial situation and confirmed the Board members with Howden Ganley (NZ) President, Emanuele Pirro (I) and Teddy Pilette (B) Vice Presidents, Theo K. Huschek (Aut) General Secretary and Mrs. Agnes Carlier (CH) Deputy Secretary.

The first of the club's 2014 awards was assigned by the new board to Gabriele Fabbri GM for Hotel Promenade in Riccione for his outstanding support for the club. The award was presented to Fabbri in an informal ceremony by Honorary President Maria Teresa de Filippis and President Howden Ganley.
