Michela Cerruti Takes Historic Podium Finish In Monza Auto GP Race

Michela Cerruti scored an historic result this weekend at Monza in the fourth round of the 2014 Auto GP Series. After the masterful performance that brought her on the Blancpain GT Endurance series podium last weekend at Silverstone, she did it all again with open wheelers. Michela scored fourth place in qualifying, and after making it through the first corner unscattered, she went on to take third place. Michela wrote a new and new important chapter in motorsports history as it was the first female racer to capture such a result in modern times.

Miki's finish came at the end of an exciting battle with Andrea Roda, who had moved on her during the pit-stop. After passing Roda, she closed every space in a tough but loyal duel that cost no damage to both of them. Due to the series' reversed top-8 grid, in Race 2 Michela was forced to start from the sixth position and got stuck in traffic. For this reason, the Super Nova crew opted for an early pit-stop. A move that didn't pay off and prevented her from getting more than a seventh place.

Michela Cerruti
“I'm extremely happy for what I achieved at Monza this weekend. I had a spectacular chemistry with the car since practice and in qualifying our potential emerged without a hitch. Despite fourth place on the grid was the same result I had scored at Budapest, this time it was on dry weather and the conditions were the same for everybody. In Race 1 I started well and held onto third place without committing a single mistake. Our pit-stop has been a little slow and I lost two positions to Roda and Kuroda. In a couple of laps though, I recovered on both of them. I promised to myself: 'I'm going to retake third place'. It hasn't been easy: Andrea is a friend and I've been happy to battle with him. We didn't back down, both in attack and in defense. I want to thank Super Nova for having provided me with a sensational car. I also want to dedicate this result to my family, friends and the sponsors who supported me. Everybody was celebrating under the podium, and I'm really on top of the world for this result!”
