Avf Endures Eventful Sunday In Spa-Francorchamps

The third and last day of the F.Renault 3.5 weekend in Spa-Francorchamps proved a tough one for AVF. On the renowned F1 track the Spanish team owned and managed by Adrian Vallés had to cope with unexpected odds that led to the second retirement in two days for Zoel Amberg, a particularly disappointing outcome for this championship round considering that the Swiss talent had the potential to finish in the points easily. If yesterday Zoel had been taken out by a first-lap crash, collected without any fault by Merhi's spinning car, today his race was over before the start due to some brake issues that became evident during the formation lap. On such a fast venue, the team decided to avoid any risk and withdraw the #20 car from the race, leaving only Beitske Visser to defend the outfit's colors.

After bagging the first top ten finish of her F.Renault 3.5 campaign just yesterday, the Dutch girl delivered another solid performance: despite nearly stalling at the start, Beitske managed to make up for the lost ground with some very fast laps and thanks to a clever late pit-stop strategy from the team she could make the most of her pace to overtake a couple of cars to finish in 14th place.

Zoel Amberg: Q2 - P12; R2 - DNF
"I got aware of some issues with the brakes immediately, while I was driving to the grid, and things didn't improve at all in the warm-up lap. On such a fast track trying to take the start despite a brake issue would have been too risky, and so together with the team we decided not to start. There isn't a lot to say, after such an unlucky weekend one just feels the need to move on and think about the next race".

Beitske Visser: Q2 - P16; R2 - P14
"The downside of the race is that I nearly stalled at the start, while the upside is that despite losing a lot of ground there I pushed as hard as I could and managed to catch up. It was another fun race, my pace was even faster than yesterday and the team did a great job with the pit-stop, allowing us to climb to P14. Late into the race I also had a good fight with Merhi, I was able to defend quite well until last lap, when he tried to pass me on the outside and we made contact. Luckily we both managed to get to the end, the fight just spiced up our race a bit. The more mileage I get the better I become, so I'm really looking forward to get more in Moscow".
