2014 NHRA: Goodyear, NHRA Sportsman Winner

Stephen Logan took home an emotional victory when he won his first NHRA national event victory in Super Comp during the Toyota Summer Nationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Logan is from Marshfield, Mass. He hugged his father, Todd, while public address announcer Joe Castello interviewed him. Stephen Logan dedicated the victory to his cousin, Kenny Logan.

Logan’s dragster was equipped with Goodyear D2052 drive tires and he said the reason for the choice to use the Goodyear offering was simple.

“It just flat works,” Stephen Logan said.

The D2052 measures 33 inches in diameter and the tread is 16 inches wide. The construction includes Goodyear’s D6 tread compound and mounts on a 15-inch rim.

The Super Comp category is in the NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for sportsman racers. Competition is open among tiremakers in the Lucas Oil program.

Logan won in an all-Goodyear final round in Super Comp, beating Doug Doll.

The key in winning in Super Comp, according to Logan, is in the first few moments of the race. Goodyear’s D2052, he said, provides an edge in those instants immediately following the start.

“Consistent 60-foot times,” Stephen Logan said. “Everything is in the first 60-feet.”

Goodyear employs about 69,000 people at manufacturing plants and facilities in 22 nations. Based in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear is among the largest tiremakers in the world and is the worldwide leader in race tire innovation.
