Highly-Anticipated American SpeedFest II Set To Ignite Kent This Weekend

Brands Hatch will transform into a scene from the States this weekend with the American SpeedFest II event on Sunday 8 June. The only NASCAR series outside of the Americas, the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, headlines on-track and race fans will be treated to 30 V8 NASCARs tumbling down Paddock Hill during a pair of races, featuring some of Europe’s best stock car drivers. There’s also a great support cast of Bernie’s Big Bangers at Brands Hatch - a celebration of Can-Am sportscars, plus Bernie’s V8 muscle cars and the Pickup Truck Championship.

There’s more than just racing at American SpeedFest II. An opening ceremony, like those seen stateside, will introduce the drivers and feature an aerobatic display from a North American T-6 Texan. Meanwhile, over 1,000 classic and modern American cars and bikes are expected to join a venue-filling display, with a 50 year timeline tracing the evolution of the Ford Mustang and a celebratory display of Ford GT40s as its centrepiece. A Penske IndyCar driven to victory by Rick Mears and a Mario Andretti Lola Formula 5000 will also be on static display along with a collection of film cars. Dragsters will also perfrom a demonstration on track.

Four brilliant bands will hit the Victory Lane Live Music Stage throughout the day, and the stage will also host the celebrations of the winning NASCAR drivers. Monster Trucks and mountainboarders will be performing in the Live Action Arena, whilst the Trade Village has more than doubled in size since 2013.

Fans can create their own thrills with Bagjump, a freejump landing platform, a huge zip line, high ropes course and laser maze. There’s fun for kids too, with free face painting, an adventure play area, entertainers and a bouncy castle.

George Silbermann, NASCAR’s vice president of Regional and Touring Series, said: “Following the tremendous success of the inaugural event last year, we’re really honoured to be part of American SpeedFest II. There will be a strong group of international drivers beating and banging, offering no quarter and putting on a great show for the fans, but this is also about family entertainment.

“Last year’s turnout was an eye-popping assembly of row after row of beautiful machinery. This year the entertainment all around the facility will feature more music, more cars, bikes and even more fun.”

Jerome Galpin, president of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, added: “The American SpeedFest II at Brands Hatch will be a huge event in 2014. The Indy track is one of my favorites and provides very spectacular and great racing. Last year our NASCAR drivers put on a great show in front of an enthusiastic crowd, and we were very happy and proud of the great welcome English fans gave to NASCAR racing.

"This year the show will be even bigger and better with 30 cars on the grid and top European drivers and teams. The atmosphere of this event is totally unique with a lot of US-themed attractions and opportunities for fans to share their passion with teams and drivers during pitwalk and grid walk sessions. I can’t wait to be in Brands and look forward to meeting you there!”
