Leipert Motorsport : Fantastic 4th place at the 12h Zandvoort

Last weekend, 29 -31. May 2014, Leipert Motorsport took part with a Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 GT3 in the 12h race (24 Series by Creventic) at the Circuit Park Zandvoort. The sensational result was the 4th place of 51 vehicles - 22 seconds behind the 3rd place finisher.

The drivers, who piloted the fast GT3 car, were well-known pilots for the team: The Dutchman Jeroen Mul, regular driver in # 22 in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe; the German drivers Michael Golz and Maximilian Völker, who have already participated with the team and the Lamborghini GT3 in DMV TCC races in the last season.

Jeroen Mul, who knows quasi personally every grain of sand at his home track in Zandvoort, had only running in the new engine for a short time during the free practice. The other two pilots were thus able to use the remaining time during free practice, to familiarize oneself with the for them completely unknown racetrack. And it worked.

During the qualifying the Lamborghini Gallardo #10 reached best times - only just before the end of the session the time has been cracked and the team came in 4th position on the grid.

The first stint of the 12h race - Friday from 4pm - 7pm - started on time. Directly during the start phase of the race the starting driver Jeroen Mul won a place and moved in front on the 3. position. Due to a perfect pit stop strategy and consistent high level lap times through Jeroen the Lamborghini led after the first pit stop window for about 1 hour the entire field of 51 cars.

At last the team couldn't retain the first place, inter alia, because of a "Stop and Go" penalty.

Nevertheless, the team of Leipert Motorsport was excited about the finishing position - 4th overall, because for Maximilian Völker as well as for Michael Golz it was the first participation in an endurance race, where the competitive conditions considerably are different to a Sprint race - because of pit stops, fuel stops and driving time.

In addition, the Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 FL2 has repeatedly demonstrated its potential in the hands of Leipert Motorsport as excellent endurance race-car. As already in January 2014 at the 24h race in Dubai, where the team celebrated a podium finish, the Lamborghini ran without any defects and finished the thrilling race in the Top 5.

Team owner Ingo Leipert: Our three drivers as well as our crew did a great job. Such a good result only can be achieved if everything fits: Drivers, crew and car. Very good conditions for the next 24h race with the Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 GT3 in Barcelona, from 05th-07th September.

However, the following 24-hour race for Leipert Motorsport is the ADAC Zurich 24h race at the Nürburgring as Support Team of Toyota Team Thailand with a Toyota Corolla Altis, 19th-22nd June.
