ARCA National Tour Invades Elko Speedway Saturday, June 21; Third Annual Akona 250 Coming To Minnesota Short Track; Schrader, Kimmel Entered

On the heels of classic superspeedway events at Pocono and Michigan, the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will return to its short-track roots when the third annual Akona 250 presented by Federated Car Care invades Elko Speedway Saturday, June 21.

Early entries include defending race winner and 10-time series champion Frank Kimmel and NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader.

"We went up there the first year to watch the ARCA race, and it was killing me that I wasn't in it," Schrader said.

"So we came last year to race. What a great show. All kinds of green flag racing - really, really good racing. I'm definitely racing at Elko, and I'm really looking forward to it. We'll see if we can do a little better this year."

Schrader won the Menards Pole by Ansell in last year's race, and led 75 laps but finished fifth behind Kimmel, Tom Hessert, local favorite Jonathan Eilen and Justin Boston respectively.

Current point leader Grant Enfinger is also expected to enter. Enfinger opened the 2014 season with three consecutive wins at Daytona, Mobile and Salem.

Hessert, in a Cunningham Motorsports entry, is also expected. Hessert made headlines early on with his win at Talladega. Hessert's teammate, Austin Wayne Self, is also entered. Self is the leading SCOTT Rookie Challenge leader.

Toledo winner Justin Boston will be aboard one of four entries expected from the Venturini Motorsports camp. Venturini Motorsports, with driver Brennan Poole, won the inaugural Akona 250 in 2012.

Raceday at Elko starts with ARCA Racing Series practice from 1:30-2:15 p.m., with final practice following from 2:45-3:30. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell follows at 5:30 with the Akona 250 set to take the green flag at 8.

Legends Cars will accompany the ARCA Racing Series for this year's event with a feature event race at 6.

The Akona 250 marks the first of three events to be televised live on the CBS Sports Network.

ARCAracing.com will also feature ARCA Racing Series live timing and scoring of all on-track activities.
