GEICO Honda Riders Headed For Higher Altitudes And Higher Rankings

All three GEICO Honda motocross riders earned top-10 finishes last weekend and left Hangtown with their eyes set on the challenges that lie ahead. And as the outdoor series takes Justin Bogle, Zach Bell and Matt Bisceglia to Lakewood, Colo., for this Saturday's Toyota Thunder Valley National, they all know the mile-high altitude will no doubt separate the men from the boys.

Reigning 250SX East champ Bogle will rely on his previous experience at the track and the expertise of his trainer and mechanic to help him adjust to the thin air. Coming off a podium finish in last weekend's first moto, he's determined to stay at the front of the pack.

"We are going a couple days early to Denver for press day and to ride," Bogle said. "My trainer Ryan (Federow) and I have specific things we do to prepare for the race and the elevation. Going early will help us work on those things throughout this week.

"I enjoy the track in Lakewood. It's an awesome layout. It's fast and technical and I've always enjoyed it. As for my bike, my mechanic will have to do the normal prep work and most likely not change much with the setup other than little tweaks for the altitude."

Teammate Bell is optimistic about his growing advantages over other riders. Finishing last weekend in eighth overall was a huge boost to his confidence and he is not willing to let the thin air slow him down.

"Going into Denver, a light guy like me racing there is great because I only weigh 140 pounds, so I will be light on the bike in the high elevation," Bell said. "I've only been on an amateur bike at Lakewood, so I'm excited to ride that track on my 250cc GEICO Honda.

"My bike will be running well in Lakewood and this week I am going to do my same routine to prepare. I fly out Wednesday for Denver and will hit the ground running with no time to waste. We are going to do some intense training this week and work on being more consistent. I'll make sure to maximize my time there before Saturday's race."

Bisceglia will face the greatest challenge this weekend being the least experienced at this particular track. Like Bogle, he will rely heavily on his trainer to prepare him and to make sure he is in the best possible shape to face the unusual conditions. Most people would be intimidated under these circumstances, but Bisceglia sees this as an opportunity to display his talents and build on his ninth-place overall finish from last weekend.

"There isn't really anything you can do to train for high elevation unless you live in high elevation like my teammate Eli Tomac," Bisceglia said. "I haven't ridden the Lakewood track in years, so I am really excited to race there and the elevation will play to whoever is in the best shape. I will be getting to Denver mid-week for press day and to ride the track to get a feel for it and for the thin air since I do not ride in it everyday. That should help a bunch."

MAVTV will carry the first motos live from 1-3 p.m. MT. Programming will then shift to NBC Sports for the second motos, which will air live from 3-5 p.m. MT.
