Reid Wilson Looks To Get Momentum Back On Track At Motor Mile

After starting the 2014 X-1R Pro Cup Series season with two top-three finishes and hovering second in the series point standings, the momentum for driver Reid Wilson (@reidwilson66) was brought to a halt in the most recent event at Memphis (Tenn.) International Raceway on April 26.

A piece of debris, a pin-sized object to be exact destroyed the right front tire and sway bar, which took the Reid Wilson Racing (RWR) team from competition and instead resulted in a frustrating eighth place finish.

“We had a great car at Memphis with consistent speed for those long green flag runs,” recalled Wilson. “I have no doubt we would have easily been a top-three car again. It was disappointing for us all, but the good news, I felt the tire going down and we were able to keep our No. 66 Bojangles’ Chevrolet off the wall.”

Returning to action for the first time in nearly five weeks in Saturday night’s New River Valley 250 at Motor Mile (Va.) Speedway, Wilson is upbeat and ready to put his team back in the championship hunt.

The newly-turned 18-year old will make his second start at the Radford, Virginia track this weekend. Last year, the Huntersville, North Carolina native finished seventh after starting in the same spot. He completed all 250 laps in the 16-car field.

“Pop (crew chief Mike Herman Sr.) and the rest of this Reid Wilson Racing team have once again put together a strong No. 66 Bojangles’ Chevrolet for me this weekend. While our finish from Memphis may not look bad on paper, it still was a setback. Our Bojangles’ ride is ready to go and I’m pumped!”

Currently, Wilson idles third in the series standings, only 17 points behind leader Caleb Holman.

Before Wilson and the rest of the X-1R Pro Cup Series stars turn their concentration towards the race, they will attend the pre-race party Friday night at BT’S Restaurant in Radford, Virginia. In addition to an exclusive meet and greet with attendees, an autograph session will also take place.

In addition to Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits, Cheerwine serves as an associate marketing partner on the No. 66 entry. Veteran short track specialist Mike Herman Sr. will serve as the crew chief for the racer, who in 2012 at age 15, was dubbed as one of “NASCAR’s future prospects to watch” by Motorsports Analytics.

The New River Valley 250 is set for Saturday, June 7 with a scheduled green flag after 7:30 p.m.
