Burton Racing Bound for Kansas

Ready for a busy IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge summer stretch of races, Burton Racing heads to Kansas Speedway for the sixth round of competition this weekend.

For the second annual Grand Prix of Kansas both Burton Racing machines look to bounce back from a frustrating Lime Rock Park outing with two strong finishes this Saturday.

Defending IMSA champions Terry Borcheller and Mike LaMarra will be again team up in the No. 23 BMW Automotive Chemicals/Excelda BMW 128i, with Greg Strelzoff and Connor Bloum paired in the No. 22 Gold Eagle BMW 128i entry.

Following a challenging outing for both of the Burton BMW 128i entries in the ST race at Lime Rock Park, they now look to make their mark in Kansas as the ST and GS classes unite once again for a single 150-minute race. All four Burton Racing drivers bring experience from last year’s inaugural race on the 6-turn, 2.37-mile combination road-course and oval. Although a few teams had tested at the track prior to last year’s race, many were still unsure of what to expect during actual race conditions. But with a race now under their belts, the drivers feel confident in their abilities to score solid results.

“Yes no question, I’m looking forward to Kansas,” said LaMarra. “It’s still a pretty new track to the series, but I think it’s a good one and I think we can do well there. We learned a lot in last year’s race and we are bringing that information with us this weekend. The guys have been working hard all season and ultimately we are focused on the full season, so I think we can get there and get another solid finish.”

Sitting in fourth place in the 2014 championship, the reigning ST champion is still a strong contender for a repeat title at the end of the season, and looks to further boost the team’s championship chase this weekend with some added valuable points.

“It has been a short break between Lime Rock and Kansas, but we knew it was coming so we just did everything we could to be ready for this quick turn around,” said Team Manager Keith Burton. “And after Lime Rock we had quite a bit of work to do on both cars, especially the No. 22. But this team is great and has put in everything to get both cars ready to compete this weekend, and not just compete but actually be competitive. So I am proud of the guys and we are ready to do well this weekend.”

It will be another quick weekend for the team with just two, hour-long practices ahead of a late night qualifying session at 10:10 PM (ET). Saturday’s race is set to go green at 7:15 PM (ET) and live timing and scoring can be found at imsa.com.
