Saavedra, driving the No. 17 Automatic Fire Sprinklers, Inc. - KV AFS Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone entry, went out 15th of the 22 cars in the field. He posted a two lap average of 214.156 mph, which puts him on the inside of row 10 on the starting grid tomorrow.

"I am very disappointed with our qualifying effort," said Saavedra. "We came here with high expectations that the Automatic Fire Sprinklers, Inc.- KV AFS car would be pretty strong around here, but unfortunately that hasn't been the case. The whole team has been working very hard to put both cars (No. 17 and No. 11) where they deserve to be and we now need to go back to the drawing board find the problems and fix them. We need to try and move on from qualifying now and keep the positive mindset alive going into final practice tonight and the race tomorrow."

Saavedra, who turned 24 on Monday, will be making his fourth start on the 1.455-mile high-banked TMS oval. In his previous three races he has a best finish of 14th last year and a best start of 11th in Race 1 in 2011.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Saavedra has been among the youngest drivers in nearly every series he has competed in. He joined the Firestone Indy Lights just before his 19th birthday and that year was awarded Rookie of the Year Honors with AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport. He moved to Bryan Herta Autosport for 2010 where he made his Indianapolis 500 debut becoming the third Colombian driver to do so. Saavedra then stepped up to the IndyCar Series in 2011 with Conquest Racing before returning to Indy Lights in 2012. Last year he spent the entire season back in IndyCar with Dragon Racing.

The Firestone 600 will be broadcast live on NBCSports at 8:00 p.m. (ET) on June 7. IMS Radio Network broadcast is complemented by real-time Timing & Scoring on www.indycar.com and the INDYCAR 14 app. The race broadcast also will be on IMS Radio Network affiliates, XM 209 and Sirius 213.
