2014 Pocono Q&A: NASCAR Sprint Cup - Aric Almirola After Engine Blew Up

ARIC ALMIROLA, No. 43 Nathan’s Famous Ford Fusion - WHAT HAPPENED? "We blew up. We have great reliability thanks to Doug Yates and everyone at Roush Yates and awesome horsepower. This is actually the first motor failure that I have had in probably two years. I would rather that it happen today than five laps into the race tomorrow. If it was going to happen, I am glad it happened now in Happy Hour and we can get a new motor put in it and get ready for 400 miles of Pocono tomorrow."

DID SOMETHING ODD HAPPEN? DID YOU MISS A SHIFT OR SOMETHING? "Actually no. I would be the first to admit if I did but it is just a taxing race track on the engine. We are shifting a lot and keeping the RPM’s really high a lot so it is pretty taxing on the engines. We just had one let go."

THIS IS THE FIRST MOTOR I CAN REMEMBER GOING SOUTH FOR FORD THIS YEAR. "Yeah, we have rarely had any issues. This is the first motor I have had let go in probably two years, which is great if you think about it. Doug Yates and everybody at Roush Yates does a great job of giving us horsepower with them being very reliable but unfortunately every once in awhile something happens. We are just lucky that the Roush Yates engines seem to be very few and far between when it comes to issues."

YOU JOKED YESTERDAY THAT YOU ARE USED TO STARTING IN THE 20’s, NOW YOU GET TO TRY FROM THE BACK. "Yeah, we are going to have to work our way up from all the way in the back tomorrow. That is okay though, it can be done here."
